Symptoms and treatment of hepatosis in pregnant women

Cholestatic hepatosis of pregnancy is one of the most common hepatic pathologies among expectant mothers. In most cases, symptoms appear early in the third trimester of pregnancy.

In the normal course of pregnancy, liver tissue, blood supply to the organ, as well as its structure and size remain unchanged, despite the increase in load. In some cases, an increase in the viscosity of bile and a decrease in the tone of the biliary tract, associated with a change in the ratio of hormones in a woman's body during pregnancy, can provoke the appearance of all sorts of complications.

According to some experts, genetic defects can be the cause of hepatosis in pregnant women, and hormonal changes in the body only provoke the development of the disease, playing the role of a "trigger". Often the pathology takes on a "family" character and is inherited through the maternal line.

The most common symptom of hepatosis in pregnant women is itching. In addition, patients are worried about nausea, pain in the liver, a feeling of heaviness. A woman can lose her appetite and get tired quickly. Jaundice often becomes one of the manifestations of the disease. In addition, discoloration of feces is considered a diagnostic sign of pathology.

After the birth of a child, the symptoms of cholestatic hepatosis in most cases disappear, and with the next pregnancy they reappear.

When detecting a disease in expectant mothers, doctors often face certain difficulties. An enlarged uterus will make it difficult to palpate the liver, and blood biochemistry has a certain specificity, therefore, when decoding the determination of the test results, it is necessary to correct some parameters that may change during pregnancy. A number of diagnostic methods that are widely applicable in practice must be completely excluded, since they are categorically contraindicated for expectant mothers. These include laparoscopy, liver puncture biopsy, and radionuclide organ scanning.

Treatment of hepatosis of pregnant women

Hepatotropic drugs and vitamins used for the treatment of hepatosis in pregnant women help to get rid of the clinical manifestations of the disease, while helping to improve the blood supply to the uterus and placenta. In some cases, plasmapheresis is performed to cleanse the blood.

Cholestatic hepatosis of pregnant women increases the risk of developing fetal hypoxia and often becomes the cause of premature birth. Pregnant women with this pathology are usually given delivery at 38 weeks or earlier. The date of birth of the child is determined based on the severity of the mother's condition.

In addition, severe bleeding after childbirth can become a complication of the disease in a woman.
