Preparations for the prevention of thyroid diseases
The occurrence of diseases associated with the thyroid gland and endemic goiter can be avoided by using preparations that contain iodine. The main role of the presented microelement is participation in the formation of thyroid hormones.
Herbal medicines are an alternative to reducing the likelihood of developing thyroid disease. One of the most beneficial plants for the thyroid gland is white cinquefoil, or rather its root part. Preparations based on it help stabilize the endocrine glands and saturate the body with flavonoids.
The most common side effect of using Potentilla is allergic reactions. The main contraindications include individual intolerance.
It should also be borne in mind that:
- Iodine preparations are taken after meals with a significant amount of liquid. It is advisable for a child to dissolve the medicine in milk or juice in advance;
- The use of such drugs for prevention is most often carried out within two to three years, but if there are special indications, then for life;
- With constant and frequent use, if addiction to the components is noted, either an increase in dosage or the addition of another drug is possible;
- Herbal preparations must be taken in courses, the duration of which is usually several months.
Preparations or biological additives intended for the prevention of thyroid diseases can be conditionally classified according to the active substance, which we will do below.
Preparations containing white cinquefoil and vitamin E
Endocrinol
Endocrinol belongs to the group of dietary supplements and is a source of flavonoids, as well as vitamin E.
Benefits: improvement of the functional state of the thyroid gland and rapid stabilization of the hormonal profile due to the presence of flavonoids, saponins and other active biological substances.
Disadvantages: the most significant effect is achieved when used together with a gel. In addition, the drug should not be taken by children under 12 years of age due to the excessive activity of its components.
Contraindications: individual intolerance to the components, all stages of pregnancy and the lactation period.
Iodine preparations
The most demanded and popular dietary supplement in this group is Iodine-active.
Iodine asset
Benefits: helps to overcome iodine deficiency and significantly reduces the risk of developing diseases that are associated with iodine deficiency.
Disadvantages: Since the product is available without a prescription, it may cause side effects in those who are not iodine deficient. For example, nausea, sore throat, and more.
Contraindications: individual intolerance to the components of the product.
Preparations containing potassium iodide
The most effective dietary supplements are Iodine Balance, Iodomarin and Potassium iodide.
Iodine balance
Benefits: Prevents the formation of goiter associated with iodine deficiency in food. Normalizes the size of the thyroid gland in people of all ages.
Disadvantages: the drug cannot be used in some cases: within the framework of therapy with radioactive iodine, as well as in the presence or suspicion of thyroid oncology.
Contraindications: expressed and latent form of thyrotoxicosis, toxic adenoma and nodular goiter, increased susceptibility to iodine, Dühring's dermatitis of the herpetiform type.
Yodomarin
Benefits: quickly and effectively replenishes iodine deficiency, helps fight various types of goiter and can even be used by pregnant women.
Disadvantages: enters into undesirable interactions with some drugs. In particular, with potassium-sparing diuretics and lithium preparations. In the first case, the formation of hyperglycemia is likely, in the second - an increase in goiter.
Contraindications: hyperthyroidism, intolerance to iodine and drugs with its presence, toxic adenoma of the thyroid gland.
Potassium iodide
Advantages: it is an effective drug for thyrotoxic crisis, guarantees protection from radiation, prevents the reappearance of goiter after removal of the thyroid gland.
Disadvantages: cannot be used in late pregnancy and lactation, and during the first trimester - in minimal amounts (no more than 30 mcg).
Contraindications: hypersensitivity to iodine, hyperthyroidism, pulmonary tuberculosis, nephritis, hemorrhagic diathesis, furunculosis, acne and pyoderma.
Iodine-containing preparations that restore the function of the thyroid gland
Thyroidin
Thyroidin is a natural hormonal preparation obtained from the thyroid gland of slaughtered cattle.
Benefits: lowers blood cholesterol levels in case of atherosclerosis formation, helps to restore thyroid function as quickly as possible.
Disadvantages: the remedy can be a catalyst for angina attacks, and therefore its use should be limited. In the case of even a slight excess of the dosage, signs of toxic poisoning are likely, namely, sweating, increased heart rate.
Contraindications: thyrotoxicosis, Addison's disease, general significant exhaustion, diabetes mellitus, severe forms of coronary insufficiency.
Triiodothyronine hydrochloride
Triiodothyronine hydrochloride is similar to thyroidin according to the algorithm of use, but it makes it possible to achieve positive results even faster. It is absorbed very quickly, which is really important in the first stage of hypothyroidism.
Advantages: does not provoke allergic reactions, its parallel use with thyroidin is permissible to enhance the effect.
Disadvantages: lack of compatibility with some drugs that restore kidney function.
Contraindications: therapy for hypothyroidism in the second stage, which is combined with insufficiency of the adrenal cortex. There are other contraindications that completely coincide with the previous remedy.
Mercazolil
Mercazolil is a synthetic hormonal drug.
Benefits: Ideal for treating diffuse toxic goiter in any form, from mild to severe.
Disadvantages: It has many side effects, in particular, it causes leukopenia. A goitrogenic effect, drug-induced hypothyroidism, painful sensations in the joints and liver dysfunction are also possible.
Contraindications: nodular forms of goiter, leukopenia, lactation and pregnancy.
Hormonal drugs for the treatment of the parathyroid glands
For disorders of the parathyroid glands, hormonal drugs are used. They are isolated from the same glands of animals. This is of great help in the fight against disease. You should refrain from the simultaneous use of several drugs or do it, but only after consulting a specialist. Otherwise, it is possible to aggravate the state of health and quickly become addicted to a particular drug.
The most famous hormonal agents for the treatment and prevention of parathyroid dysfunction are Parathyroidin, Dihydrotachysterol, Calcitonin and Calcitrin. Parathyroidin and Calcitrin are injected.
Parathyroidin
Benefits: increases the amount of calcium in the blood and makes it possible to fight tetany syndrome (seizures). Most often, this phenomenon is caused by insufficient work of the parathyroid glands.
Disadvantages: if the dosage is slightly exceeded, weakness (a sudden decrease in the range of motion), loss of muscle tone and even coma may form.
Contraindications: increased blood calcium.
Dihydrotachysterol
Dihydrotachysterol is included in the group of correctors of bone and cartilage tissue metabolism, as well as vitamin-like agents.
Benefits: normalizes calcium levels while destabilizing phosphorus-calcium metabolism. Helps prevent osteoporosis. Differs in activity when used internally, has a slow and long-term effect, can be used for a long period of time without the formation of tolerance.
Disadvantages: requires permanent control of the ratio of calcium and phosphorus, not only in the blood, but also in the urine. When used during pregnancy, the forced ossification of the fetus is likely.
Contraindications: hypersensitivity, predisposition to hypercalcemia.
Calcitonin
Calcitonin is a hypocalcemic drug that is obtained not only from synthetic components. It is also produced naturally: from the thyroid, thymus and parathyroid glands of vertebrates.
Advantages: use in diseases of the systemic type, which are characterized by restructuring of the skeleton: from spontaneous bone resorption or Paget's disease to some forms of osteomyelitis and periodontal disease.
Disadvantages: a significant risk of side effects, which will be expressed in general and local hypersensitivity (paroxysmal dizziness, constant nausea, vomiting, flushing of the face). It should be used with extreme caution by those who are faced with a chronic form of rhinitis.
Contraindications: hypocalcemia, any trimester of pregnancy and lactation. The impact on children has not been fully investigated.
Calcitrin
Calcitrin is a natural hormone derived from the thyroid gland of animals. It is introduced into the body in an injection form.
Advantages: excellent effect on delayed recovery of fractures, permanent restructuring of zonal-type bones, osteoporosis and non-endocrine diseases.
Disadvantages: possible allergic reactions in the area of injections, an increase in blood pressure, flushing of the face. With an increased susceptibility to Calcitrin, paresthesias occur in some cases.
Contraindications: pregnancy, lactation period, predisposition to hypocalcemia.
Harm of iodine-containing and hormonal drugs
The negative characteristic of these drugs is that they have side effects. In the framework of thyrotoxicosis, ischemic heart disease, any type of diabetes mellitus, drugs such as triiodothyronine and thyroidin should not be used in any case. Mercazolil, for example, in some situations may be a catalyst for the development of leukopenia and granulocytopenia. In addition, it is contraindicated in women during pregnancy and in the presence of nodes in the thyroid gland.
It is unacceptable to use iodine preparations for kidney diseases, acute allergic reactions, neoplasms of the endocrine gland, both good and malignant.
Endonorm is a natural non-hormonal agent
The presented product is completely natural and non-hormonal. It is 100% plant-based. Chief among them is a substance called albinin, which is isolated from the extract of the root of the cinquefoil.
Thanks to its clinically selected composition, Endonorm has several points of application and, as a result, a wide range of therapeutic activities. The effect is manifested even in the most problematic cases, when other means have shown zero results.
Benefits: restores its own function of the thyroid gland - it begins to produce the optimal ratio of thyroid hormones necessary for a person. No need for lifelong use;
Disadvantages: Requires adherence to a special diet. You will also need to limit or completely exclude from the diet such products that contain so-called goitrogenic substances. That is, those that provoke thyroid dysfunction. These include almost all types of cabbage (from common to cauliflower and Brussels sprouts), broccoli, turnips, turnips, rapeseed and millet.
Contraindications: individual intolerance to ingredients, inflammation and diseases of the digestive tract and the gastrointestinal tract, all stages of pregnancy and the period of breastfeeding, children under 12 years of age.
Thus, to date, a significant number of drugs have been developed to help cure the thyroid gland and restore its functions. Many of them have serious side effects and each has its own contraindications. In this regard, before starting to use this or that tool, you must consult with a specialist.
