Chalazion on the eye in children (child)
Chalazion translated from Greek means "hailstone" and is a chronic inflammation of the cartilage of the eyelid around the meibomian gland. It is quite difficult to get rid of such a disease of the century in a child. With a sluggish process, the baby is helped by therapeutic methods of treatment, but applying them will have to be patient. In more acute periods, it is impossible to do without surgery. Symptoms of chalazion are swelling of the edge of the eyelid, over time, an elastic formation of the size of a large pea is felt.
On the side of the conjunctiva, redness (hyperemia) is observed in the central part, the zone has a grayish color. On palpation, pain is absent or mild. When suppuration occurs, then inflammation, pain, redness of the skin of the entire eyelid joins, there may be a spontaneous opening with the release of contents from the conjunctiva. As a rule, treatment begins with anti-inflammatory therapy and physical. procedures.
Mostly special injections are used. The occlusion of the meibomian gland on the eyelid on visual examination resembles barley, but differs from it in that it rarely breaks through and dissolves, increases in size over time, thickens and becomes hard. Chalazion appears on one or both eyelids of the eyes and even in several places at the same time. Most often it can be found on the lower eyelid.
By putting pressure on the eyeball, it can provoke various eye diseases, for example, blepharitis or conjunctivitis. Therefore, chalazion in children certainly requires early treatment, since the operation is difficult for children psychologically. In traditional medicine, there are two methods of treating chalazion in children. The conservative method is resorted to only at the initial stage, when, in the presence of cartilaginous inflammation, the secret has not yet become denser.
In this case, the treatment involves the use of tobrex disinfecting eye drops and ointments such as yellow mercury ointment, hydrocortisone ointment, etc. Only an ophthalmologist can make all appointments and draw up a treatment regimen. Among the methods, injection treatment has a good effect. It consists in the introduction of corticosteroids into the cavity of the chalazion to resorb the tumor, but due to the fact that children do not easily tolerate such a procedure, it is best to avoid the formation of a solid granule.

Chalazion in a child is a fairly common occurrence. The main factors affecting the appearance of swelling are considered frequent colds, a weak immune system, and diabetes mellitus. Sometimes the disease occurs due to problems with the functioning of the digestive tract. For example, a common cause of the appearance of a "pea" can be dysbiosis. The operation is performed under local anesthesia. The eyelid is turned inside out, clamped and the conjunctiva is cut, peas are husked.
The bed is scraped out and treated with a disinfectant, an antibiotic is injected under the conjunctiva. No stitches are applied, they cover the eye with a sterile bandage. When examining children prone to this disease, it is necessary to perform a whole range of studies. Pediatricians, immunologist, gastroenterologist are involved. It is necessary to find out the reasons for the appearance of chalazion and restore weakened health, since relapses of the disease are possible.
It is strictly forbidden to practice self-treatment, it is unacceptable! Compresses with herbs, boiled eggs, and onions can contribute to the development of a secondary infection. All procedures with the help of heat should be carried out carefully and only during the period when the very first signs of the disease are detected, while there is no inflammation. Chalazion, although most likely related to cosmetic defects, can still cause some problems.
For a child, the appearance of a recurrent chalazion in several places is a rare occurrence. Usually, a relapse of the disease can be observed in the same place where the pea was previously removed. And this is due to the incomplete removal of the previous tumor. A well-known factor contributing to the appearance of chalazion is hyperopia. In the presence of this problem, it is necessary to immediately carry out vision correction using glasses, special exercises.
Chalazion is preceded by a decrease in general or local immunity, this is also explained by the congenital or acquired instability of the body to gram-positive bacteria. In this case, you need to consult an immunologist. Also, experts believe that blockage of the meibomian glands of the eyelid in children is often caused by functional and anatomical imperfection, that is, narrow exit ducts, weak work of smooth muscle cells that squeeze out secretions, or an insufficiently high level of the protective protein of secretory immunoglobulin tears. Eyelid massage can correct these pathologies, perhaps a more thorough examination of a child with such a diagnosis in scientific institutions dealing with eye diseases is needed.
