Barley
Barley is an annual medicinal plant that has a straight, short stem. Linear leaves are located on the thin stem of the plant, which are attached to the end of the stem by the vagina. The plant blooms in May-June. Complex spikelets are located on the common axis of the stem. There is one flower on each spikelet of barley. The barley fruit is a caryopsis that has grown together with the upper hymen. The fruits of the plant ripen in the period starting from the end of August and continuing until the end of September.
Wild barley does not exist in nature. Barley is grown in fields throughout Russia, the United States, Africa and Asia Minor.
