Today, children rarely get sick with measles thanks to the whole vaccination program, which started several years ago. In schoolchildren, pathology began to occur less often, but in adults it began to be registered more and more often. Unfortunately, not everyone is vaccinated on time.

The national vaccination schedule regulates the timing of the introduction of drugs and provides for routine vaccination up to 35 years. As part of routine vaccination, you can deliver an injection free of charge, older people pay for this service. When a person who has not been sick and who has not been vaccinated comes into contact with a sick measles, the person is vaccinated at the expense of the state.

The measles vaccination for adults is carried out in two stages, with the interval between injections being three months. If an adult is vaccinated only once, he is also vaccinated according to the above plan.

The measles vaccine is combined with the vaccine against mumps, rubella, chickenpox. A temporary contraindication is the presence in the body of an acute pathological process of infectious and non-infectious genesis, pregnancy, relapse of a chronic disease. In addition, the vaccine is not given in case of severe allergy to the components of the drug (chicken protein, aminoglycosides), persons with immunodeficiency, and cancer patients.

It is important to remember that in adult patients, measles occurs with numerous complications and lasts longer. The causative agent of the pathology - measles virus - is considered the most dangerous, it can persist for a long time at low temperatures, is well tolerated over long distances and is highly contagious: if a person is not vaccinated, then the risk of infection reaches almost 100%.

Which vaccines should you choose? What are the differences?

On the territory of Russia, domestic monovaccines (Ruvax), divaccines against measles and mumps and combined vaccines purchased in the USA and Great Britain (MMP II, Pririx) are used.

Differences in the composition of different vaccines do not affect their ability to form immunity and do not affect their tolerance. Imported preparations are prepared on chicken embryos and are contraindicated in the presence of a severe allergic reaction to chicken protein, which is very rare. Domestic preparations are prepared on the embryos of Japanese quails. The form of imported drugs is also considered the most convenient, since it provides protection against three infectious agents at the same time: measles, rubella and mumps. In addition, the combination of the three components in one preparation reduces the volume of ballast substances, and reduces the number of injections and hospital visits.

Domestic measles vaccination is placed subcutaneously under the scapula or in the shoulder area, imported drugs are injected both subcutaneously and intramuscularly.

Danger of measles for adults

Once in the patient's body, the virus infects the mucous membrane of the upper respiratory tract, eyes, causing an acute inflammatory process in the tissues. Then, having penetrated into the lymph nodes, the pathogen is spread by blood throughout the body. The incubation period in most cases lasts about 10 days.

In the early days, measles can be easily confused with a minor cold. The disease is accompanied by a headache, loss of strength, severe runny nose, cough, eyelid edema, lacrimation, swelling of the face. Three days after the onset of the first symptoms of measles, the patient's body temperature rises to high values and practically does not drop. Then, after about three days, characteristic whitish rashes appear on the mucous membrane of the cheeks. After a short period of time, the whole body is covered with a rash.

Measles is a rather serious danger for an adult. In severe cases, it can cause a number of complications: hearing loss, visual impairment, liver and kidney damage. Frequent consequences of the disease are bronchitis, pneumonia, and decreased immunity. Thus, to a couple of weeks spent in bed, several months may be added to treat the complications.

Vaccination against measles for adult patients allows you to avoid this dangerous pathology at any age.

Vaccination against measles is contraindicated in case of primary or secondary immunodeficiency, after past illnesses accompanied by a strong decrease in immunity, or when taking drugs that suppress immunity.
