The harm of hypothermia for the female body

Hypothermia
Hypothermia

The human body, despite its almost perfect structure, is quite fragile and sensitive to the action of some unfavorable environmental factors. In our case, we will focus on the effect of cold irritation on the female body.

Probably, almost every girl, teenage girl has repeatedly heard: "Do not sit on a cold stone - you will catch a cold." There is a widespread belief that inflammation of the ovaries and fallopian tubes, which in colloquial speech are often called the appendages of the uterus (adnexitis), bladder (cystitis), kidneys (pyelonephritis) is provoked by hypothermia. This is not entirely true. In fact, inflammation is caused by microorganisms, bacteria and infections (streptococci, staphylococci, mycoplasmas, ureaplasma, chlamydia, etc.), which can be in the female body in a "dormant" state and do not cause any visible harm to it. Hypothermia is only an impetus for their excessive reproduction, which occurs due to a decrease in immunity under the influence of cold exposure.

Consequences of chronic adnexitis

The consequences of neglected, untreated adnexitis, cystitis and pyelonephritis can be dire. The main and most dangerous of them are:

  • ectopic pregnancy;

  • inability to have children (infertility);
  • recurring severe pain in the lower abdomen, in the lumbar region;
  • painful urination;
  • menstrual irregularities (soreness, irregularity);
  • pain during sexual intercourse, which can be so severe that it leads to a complete refusal of sexual activity;
  • sleep problems, decreased ability to work due to a violation of the psycho-emotional state.

Advice

Here are some helpful tips to help prevent inflammation:

  1. Practice good personal hygiene.
  2. In winter and at any other time of the year, in cold weather, wear clothes that cover the lower back and lower abdomen (belly-length jackets and jeans on the hips are not allowed).
  3. Be sure to change your clothes after swimming in the summer. A wet swimsuit contributes to hypothermia, especially in windy weather.
  4. For the slightest pain in the lower abdomen or lumbar region, see your doctor. A method of treating adnexitis, cystitis and pyelonephritis is antibacterial therapy. A suitable antibiotic can only be prescribed by a doctor, having previously performed laboratory tests.
