First aid for joint dislocation
Subluxation is an incomplete displacement of the surfaces of the bones. They touch each other, but they are in the wrong position. This type of injury also requires the help of a specialist.
The cause of dislocation and subluxation is a strong mechanical effect. It can be an indirect injury: a fall on a straight arm, an unsuccessful jump, a blow. Some diseases also lead to dislocations: arthritis, arthrosis, dysplasia. All these damages are considered acquired. If, during development in the womb, the formation of the articular head and cavity does not proceed correctly, congenital dislocation occurs. It most often affects the hip joint and patella.
The presence of a dislocation can be determined by the characteristic acute pain in the injured area. The joint becomes impossible to straighten completely, it is in a bent position, swells. The patient is practically unable to make movements with his help, as the pain becomes stronger. The skin around the joint may turn red. Outwardly noticeable deformation, for example, lengthening or shortening of the limb due to the displacement of bones. Seek help from a doctor as soon as possible, but if it is impossible to do this immediately, you should provide the victim with first aid.
Features of first aid
First of all, you should immobilize the site of injury and provide the patient with peace. You can fix the joint, depending on the nature of the damage, using a bandage and cotton wool, splints. It can be made from scrap materials, such as a board or thick cardboard. The main thing is to tightly tie it to the injured limb so that the joint is motionless. If the victim has a dislocated hip, you can immobilize the leg by bandaging it to the healthy one. You should try to fix the joints above and below the damaged one. When the hand is dislocated, it is suspended with a bandage or bandage.
The patient is transported to the hospital in a supine position. It is necessary to deliver it to specialists within the next few hours. During this time, severe edema may form, which makes treatment difficult. At the hospital, the doctor will take an X-ray and adjust the joint if there is a dislocation. You cannot independently carry out this procedure as part of first aid. First, the reduction is accompanied by acute pain. Local anesthesia is used in hospitals. Secondly, without experience and relevant knowledge, you can easily harm the victim.
Before providing medical assistance in an emergency room, applying cold to the injury site, for example, ice, and pain relievers, will help get rid of the discomfort. Heat should never be used.
The most common remedies for pain relief from injuries, including dislocations, are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs:
- Analgin. This is a fairly strong drug that is widely used due to its properties such as fast absorption and good solubility. It will take a little time to create a high concentration of the drug in the blood. This is very important in relieving acute pain. However, analgin has a number of contraindications and serious side effects. Due to the negative effect on blood and liver cells, analgin is used only in special cases. The drug can cause allergic reactions such as hives.
-
Paracetamol. It is one of the most reliable and proven drugs. Because of its weak anti-inflammatory properties, paracetamol does not have the side effects that are common with most NSAIDs. The drug has a negative effect on the body when the dose is exceeded and used for a long time. Paracetamol is contraindicated in persons with kidney disease, diabetes mellitus and alcoholism. In case of abuse of alcoholic beverages, the drug is taken in smaller doses. In case of dislocation, paracetamol can relieve pain within an hour.
- Ketorol. It has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. Ketorol helps relieve moderate to severe pain in a short time. The drug is presented in ampoules and tablets. In case of dislocation, it is not recommended to independently inject ketorol intramuscularly. The tablets are no less effective and act quickly enough.
- Ibuprofen. The low toxicity and safety of this drug allows it to be used in significant doses. It can reach 12 g per day. Ibuprofen is often used by athletes not only for sprains, but also for sprains. The greatest efficiency is achieved when the drug is combined with oxydocon. This complex therapy allows you to quickly get rid of the pain of dislocation.
- Aspirin. Like most other drugs used for dislocation to relieve pain, it is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. Aspirin is contraindicated in children under 15 years of age. In addition, it is not recommended to use it for renal failure, diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.
- Novocaine and butorphanol. Novocaine - a drug that experts inject intramuscularly, allows you to quickly relieve all unpleasant sensations. But you should not do the injection yourself in order to avoid negative consequences. An injection of novocaine requires professional training. Alternatively, butorphanol can be used. It is harmless and it will not be difficult to inject it intramuscularly on your own.
