Symptoms and treatment of acute tendovaginitis
Acute tendovaginitis can be infectious and non-infectious in nature. His symptoms develop quickly enough. The disease can become chronic and requires urgent medical attention.
Symptoms of Acute Infectious Tenosynovitis
Symptoms of acute infectious nonspecific tendovaginitis are rapid. The inflammation develops quickly enough, a swelling forms at the site of the lesion. The most common acute infectious tendovaginitis occurs in the tendon sheaths located on the outer surface of the hand or foot, as well as the flexors of the fingers. The synovial sheaths of the fingers are less commonly affected.
Acute tendovaginitis of an infectious origin is characterized by the rapid development of edema and swelling, which in a short period of time pass to the forearm or lower leg, depending on the location of the focus of infection. The joints become inactive, in some cases flexion contracture of the fingers is observed.
Purulent inflammation can cause sepsis, accompanied by an increase in body temperature and an increase in the size of the lymph nodes.
Purulent inflammation is localized mainly in the synovial sheaths of the tendons on the hands. Further development of the inflammatory process can cause damage to the fascial space of Pirogov in the forearm. Acute purulent tendovaginitis of the little finger can provoke ulnar tendobursitis.
Symptoms of acute aseptic tendovaginitis
Acute aseptic tenosynovitis, or crepitant tenosynovitis, is most often localized in the synovial sheaths on the dorsum of the hands; in rare cases, the disease affects the feet and intertubercular synovial sheaths of the biceps brachialis muscle.
Symptoms of the disease are acute, the area of inflammation swells, when palpation of the focus and simultaneous movement of the thumb, you can notice crunching, joint mobility is limited, movements in the joint are accompanied by pain. The acute stage of tendovaginitis becomes chronic quite often.
Treatment of acute tendovaginitis
Acute tendovaginitis is treated locally and with systemic drugs. Nonspecific acute tendovaginitis requires, first of all, the appointment of antibiotics and immunity-strengthening agents. Tuberculous tenosynovitis is relieved by anti-tuberculosis drugs.
Acute aseptic tenosynovitis is treated with medications belonging to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. For treatment, aspirin, butadione, indomethacin are used.
Local treatment at the first symptoms of acute tendovaginitis is reduced to fixing the joint with a plaster cast and applying warming compresses. In the stage of attenuation of inflammation, physiotherapy procedures are performed. Special gymnastics and physiotherapy exercises are also recommended for patients.
Purulent tendovaginitis requires urgent surgical intervention, opening the abscess and draining the wound.
