Inhalation

A nebulizer is a medical device for inhalation. Its use is allowed even for the treatment of rhinitis in newborns, but as prescribed by a doctor. The principle of inhalation with a nebulizer consists in atomizing small dispersed particles of medicinal solutions, due to which the drug is distributed in the respiratory tract much faster than with other methods of treatment.

Types of nebulizers

  • A compressor nebulizer consists of a chamber and a compressor connected by a tube for air circulation, thanks to which medicinal solutions are sprayed using a powerful air flow. One of the disadvantages of compressor devices is the loud noise they make during operation.
  • An ultrasonic nebulizer converts the medicine into an aerosol using ultrasonic waves. They are practically silent during operation, which allows them to be used in the treatment of childhood respiratory diseases. But they cannot be used in the treatment of antibacterial and mucolytic drugs.
  • Mesh nebulizers have the highest value. Their work is based on the transformation of the drug into small particles thanks to a special membrane. Mesh nebulizers are absolutely silent, compact and do not take up much space.

Nebulizer inhalation recipes

In the treatment of a cold with the help of inhalation with a nebulizer, many different recipes are used that are aimed at restoring the nasal mucosa, relieving swelling, inflammation and congestion. In each case, the medicine is selected individually, taking into account the severity of the disease, the age of the patient, the tolerability of the drug, etc. Therefore, before using the drugs, you should consult your doctor.

Most often, for the treatment of a cold by inhalation, the following drugs are prescribed:

  • Interferon. It is very effective in the treatment of infectious diseases of the nasopharynx. It is recommended for the treatment of rhinitis in both adults and children. For inhalation, the contents of one ampoule of the drug are diluted with three milliliters of saline, after which the solution is placed in a reservoir intended for the drug. The procedure is performed twice a day.
  • Furacilin is used in the treatment of colds in ARVI. For one procedure, four milliliters of pharmaceutical solution is required.
  • Tonsilong is used for acute and chronic rhinitis. Depending on the age, the drug is diluted with saline in different proportions: one to one - for adults and children after seven years, one to two - for children from one to seven years, one to three - for children under one year. One application requires four milliliters of solution.
  • Chlorophyllipt is actively used for staphylococcal infections. It is used diluted with saline in a ratio of one to ten. The procedure will require three milliliters of solution. The number of procedures is three times a day.
  • Mineral water. Inhalation using alkaline mineral water instead of physiological solution, for example, Luzhansk Borjomi, Essentuki.
  • Pharmacy propolis tincture is recommended for the treatment of wounds in the sinuses, acute inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract. The tincture is diluted in a ratio of one to twenty. It is used three times a day, three milliliters per procedure. The remedy is prohibited for allergies (see also: causes and symptoms of allergies).
  • Alcohol tincture of calendula is used for acute inflammatory processes of the respiratory tract. The ratio of tincture and saline is one to forty. For a single use, you need four milliliters of solution. The number of inhalations should be at least three times a day.

  • Inhalation with vasoconstrictor drugs designed to relieve congestion, for example, using Naphthyzin. It is diluted with saline and the procedure is performed twice a day. Naphthyzin is used according to the age category indicated on the drug packaging.
  • Antibacterial agents. In the treatment of a runny nose, accompanied by purulent discharge, which is green or yellow discharge from the nose, antibacterial agents are used for inhalation - Isofra. Combination drugs are also effective, for example, Polydex, which is both an antibiotic and a vasoconstrictor.
  • To increase immunity, prevent the common cold, it is recommended to carry out inhalations with local immunostimulating drugs, such as Laferobion.

The nebulizer is recommended for the treatment of all types of rhinitis and respiratory diseases, since the effectiveness of inhalations carried out using this device is very high. But treatment should be started at the very beginning of the development of the disease. In addition to unpleasant mucous discharge from the nose, the nebulizer will help to cope with many serious conditions, accompanied by heavy breathing, burning and itching in the nose, loss of smell, insomnia, and in a short period of time.

Inhalation with a cold with a nebulizer is based primarily on the fact that this is one of the best ways to moisturize the nasal mucosa, due to which the following happens:

  • The nasal cavity is cleared of pathogenic flora, viruses, bacteria that caused the development of the disease are destroyed;
  • The mucus accumulated in the nasal sinuses liquefies;
  • Decreases swelling of the nasal mucosa;
  • Breathing improves.

The use of inhalation as a method of treating the common cold will prevent the development of more dangerous pathologies, such as sinusitis and otitis media, since with properly selected treatment and the correct use of the nebulizer, you can completely get rid of a cold in just a few days.

For inhalation in children, it is recommended to use a compressor nebulizer, which is approved for patients of even the smallest age group. It is equipped with masks of different sizes, which makes it convenient to use this device for the treatment of rhinitis in children.

There are recipes that are designed specifically for the treatment of respiratory diseases in children, taking into account the characteristics of each age. Carrying out inhalation with a nebulizer in a child should be agreed with the pediatrician, on whose recommendation the appropriate recipe is selected.

As a medicine for the procedure in children, mucolytics, alkaline compresses, antibacterial agents, bronchodilators, glucocorticosteroids are usually used.

Rules for inhalation with a nebulizer for a cold

The main rule when performing inhalation with a nebulizer for the treatment of a cold is that it is strictly forbidden to use medicines containing essential oils. Otherwise, small oil particles formed and sprayed during the use of the device can lead to blockage of the lumen of the bronchi and oil pneumonia.

In addition, for the treatment to be effective, it is important not only to choose the right drug, but also to follow the recommendations for the procedure:

  • It is forbidden to talk during therapy;
  • You can not use this method of treatment with an increase in body temperature;
  • If a cough occurs, the inhalation session must be stopped until the attack stops;
  • It is forbidden to use the device immediately after a meal, at least half an hour must pass;
  • For therapy, a person must take a sitting position;
  • Breathing should be calm, measured;
  • The duration of the session should not exceed fifteen minutes;
  • For full treatment, you need to carry out five to ten procedures, depending on the severity of the disease;
  • During the session, inhale and exhale through the nose;
  • When treating with antibacterial agents, rinse your mouth after the procedure;
  • The temperature of the medicine used should be no higher than twenty degrees.

Benefits of using a nebulizer to treat a common cold

The nebulizer is approved for use at any age, for any disease of the respiratory system and for any severity. Its action is safer compared to other remedies for the treatment of the common cold, but no less effective than the most potent drugs.

Using a nebulizer helps:

  • Moisturizing the nasal mucosa;
  • Elimination of dryness, burning, itching in the nose;
  • Softening of the crusts in the nose, formed when the mucous membrane dries;
  • Faster removal of mucus from the nose due to its thinning;
  • Preservation of the mucous membrane due to the mild effect;
  • The drug is delivered to all parts of the nasal cavity and is evenly distributed.

In addition, inhalation with a nebulizer has no contraindications, since it does not cause side effects. Moreover, the procedure is easily tolerated by children, it is painless and safe. Inhalation with a nebulizer is an excellent means of preventing coughing and diseases of the lower respiratory tract.

Inhalation, unlike nasal drops, delivers the drug to all corners of the nasopharynx, which does not drain into the oral cavity.

The ingress of drops into the oral cavity is accompanied by their swallowing, thus, particles of the medicine enter the stomach, are absorbed into the blood and poison the body, which, in turn, can adversely affect the human condition. There are, of course, nasal sprays, but their effect is not so long in comparison with the effect of inhalation.

Ointments for the common cold also cannot provide effective therapy, since their use cannot organize a contact with all parts of the nasopharynx. Therefore, a nebulizer for the treatment of rhinitis is the most effective way, in which there is a quick and effective cleansing of the nose from mucus, reducing congestion, relieving swelling and inflammation, therefore, recovery occurs more quickly.
