Late toxicosis during pregnancy
Toxicosis in late pregnancy
Toxicosis of the second half of pregnancy
If the toxicosis of the first half of pregnancy occurs in most women expecting the birth of a child, and its course most often does not affect the health of the mother and baby, then the toxicosis of the second half of pregnancy, on the contrary, requires increased attention from doctors, since it can be attributed to factors risk. The danger of late toxicosis also lies in the fact that its classical manifestations in the form of vomiting and nausea may be absent, and the pathological process, meanwhile, has already gained dangerous momentum.
The diagnosis of toxicosis in the second half of pregnancy is often based on laboratory tests of blood, urine, and also on the basis of blood pressure, which is measured regularly.

What is the danger of toxicosis in late pregnancy?
Toxicosis in late pregnancy causes serious disorders in the body of a pregnant woman. It becomes the cause of fetal hypoxia, contributes to the violation of water-salt metabolism in the mother. The high permeability of the vascular walls leads to the accumulation of fluid in the tissues of the woman, as a consequence of this, the work of the placenta is disrupted. The child does not receive enough nutrients, oxygen, and metabolic products are less efficiently removed from the amniotic fluid, from which the nervous system of the fetus may suffer.
A severe form of toxicosis threatens not only the health, but also the life of a pregnant woman and sometimes requires artificial obstetrics before the appointed time.
Signs of late toxicosis
The onset of toxicosis in late pregnancy is accompanied by fluid retention in the body, thus, agonizing thirst, a large amount of fluid consumed and a significantly smaller amount of fluid excreted in the urine serve as an alarm signal.
Edema often becomes one of the signs of late toxicosis, which is no longer so difficult to notice. Their reason lies in fluid retention in the body of a pregnant woman and high vascular permeability, which is typical for gestosis in the second half of pregnancy.
The diagnosis of toxicosis in late pregnancy is confirmed by high blood pressure figures - more than 140/90 mm Hg. Art. - and urine analysis: protein is found in it, which indicates a violation of the kidneys.
Signs of late toxicosis that deserve special attention from a woman include: a sharp increase in blood pressure, flies before the eyes, headache, a feeling of stuffiness in the ears, pain in the abdomen. The listed symptoms require immediate hospitalization.
Causes of late toxicosis during pregnancy
Existing diseases such as obesity, hypertension, fibroids can become the cause of toxicosis in late pregnancy. Some disorders of the endocrine, cardiovascular systems, as well as diseases of the genital organs are also dangerous. After the 35th week of pregnancy, toxicosis can begin after ARVI or be the result of poor nutrition. Risk factors, in addition to chronic diseases, include: fatigue, stress, a break between the birth of children not more than two years old, a history of artificial termination of pregnancy, the mother's age (less than 18 and more than 35 years), a large amount of amniotic fluid, a large fetus, multiple pregnancy.
Prevention of late toxicosis
A large role in the prevention of late toxicosis is played by a balanced diet, the exclusion of certain foods from the diet (smoked, salted, fried, spices, flour, chocolate, etc.), an abundance of vegetables, fruits, berries. It is recommended to use cereals, dairy products, limiting the fluid intake to two liters. To prevent toxicosis, you need to move a lot, do gymnastics, swim, walk on the street. It is equally important to observe the regime of work and rest. Lack of sleep and vigorous physical activity can cause late toxicosis.
