Millet is a low annual plant with fibrous roots that penetrate 1.5 m into the soil. The stems of the plant are cylindrical, with many nodes, branching from the root. On the hollow stems, alternate green or red leaves are located. The inflorescence of the plant is a panicle with spikelets at the ends of twigs of two colors. Each spikelet has 2 flowers: one is bisexual, and the other is asexual or staminate. The fruit of the plant is a caryopsis, oval or round, but also elongated. The caryopsis can be white, red, yellow and other colors.

This plant does not grow wild. It is grown in Eurasia.

Growing millet

Millet is grown only by seed method. Sowing seeds is carried out in dry soil. After sowing the seeds, they are rolled up with rollers so that the soil warms up and moisture from the lower layers goes to the upper layers of the soil - this will lead to the rapid emergence of seedlings. Before sowing seeds, they can be soaked for 2-3 days, so that the seedlings appear a week ahead of schedule. Millet grows very slowly during the growing season, but weeds grow much faster, so millet should be grown in places that are free of weeds. The plant ripens in the middle of summer.

Millet is very good at fertilizing. Chernozem soils are best suited for growing millet. During the period of intensive growth, millet needs nitrogen fertilization. In order for the plant to be strong, it must be watered regularly.
