Useful properties of cane
The reed is an interesting perennial plant that can be up to four meters in height. Such an aquatic herb with a thick, flexible stem also has a creeping rhizome with hollow shoots. Reed propagates by rhizomes that are able to quickly penetrate into any moist soil. The alternate long leaves are rather flat, lanceolate. Leathery plates along the edges are sharp and have a bluish-green tint; they always turn their edges to the wind.
The reed tends to bloom from about July to September. Its inflorescences are represented by a multi-hairy fluffy panicle, the length of which can reach 30 cm. Such a spreading panicle has a purple tint. Reed grows everywhere near rivers, ponds, wetlands and other bodies of water.
The leaves of this plant contain an incredible amount of ascorbic acid and vitamin A. Such a diaphoretic and diuretic has long been used in the form of unique infusions. In addition, cane has antipyretic and anti-inflammatory properties.
Reed application
To prepare a healing cane infusion, you need to brew 20 grams of chopped herbs with one full glass of boiling water, insist in a tightly closed thermos for about four hours, and then gently strain. For diseases of the bladder and kidneys, as well as for colds and edema, it is advised to take 50 ml of the product 4 times a day. Moreover, such a unique infusion is also indicated for vitamin deficiencies and general weakness.
A special powder made from dried leaves is intended for the speedy healing of extensive and festering wounds. Often, various decoctions and infusions of cane are recommended for poisoning the body with toxic substances and low-quality products.
Cane juice
Fresh cane juice can be drunk to quench thirst and hemoptysis, as well as to relieve fever. On the basis of such juice, you can make effective compresses to get rid of itching after insect bites and neutralize their poison.
Reed species
This genus of plants includes about 5 species. Many species grow almost everywhere.
The reed is spear-shaped. This type of plant is very common in Europe. This aquatic perennial prefers shallow waters. It has a thick rhizome that is rich in starch. A simple stem without knots is complemented by double-row leaves collected at the base. The oblong-linear plates with a solid edge are rather small. Unisexual flowers are located in dense brown inflorescences of a spike-like type.
Marsh reed. The presented erect plant has a rounded smooth stem. Its height can reach four and a half meters. The long rhizome gives powerful shoots. The grayish green leaves are pointed. Rigid dense plates have a rough edge. Large inflorescences of marsh reeds are represented by a dense panicle with a drooping top. Nondescript flowers are collected in compressed spikelets of a dark purple hue. This species blooms from mid-July to the end of September, the fruit in the form of a caryopsis does not ripen until August. In wetlands, marsh reeds form very dense and clean thickets.
Common reed. This tall, sturdy perennial delights with its firm, smooth stem and powerful rhizome. The color of the leaves often varies from grayish to green. Sharpened, rigid sheet plates with a flat edge are sharpened across the entire width. The panicle can be up to 50 cm long, while its width is at least 15 cm. Small flowers without a perianth are grouped into interesting shortened spikelets of a linear shape. Flowering of this species can be observed from late June to early September. The fruit of the plant is represented by a small caryopsis, which ripens in mid-August.
Sugar cane. This species is very similar to bamboo with its cylindrical stems. Their height is at least 6 meters. Sugar is obtained from the juice of the stems. For reproduction, special cuttings are used that develop in short shoots. This type gives preference to sunny places and fertile soils with abundant moisture. In favorable conditions, sugarcane plantations are like wild, impenetrable jungle. The maximum sucrose content is guaranteed at the time the stems stop growing.
The reed is wild. This bluish-green aquatic plant is a tall perennial with alternate lanceolate leaves and a smooth stem. Rigid leaf plates are not afraid of direct sunlight. Small multi-flowered spikelets are often collected in silvery fluffy panicles. Wild reed pleases with its flowering in July. It is quite common in forest-steppe and forest zones, and also occurs in various low-mountain areas and along river valleys. Thanks to its long rhizomes, this species forms surprisingly dense thickets. It should be mentioned that wild reed is a participant in the peat formation process. In a temperate climate, wild reed feels most comfortable, settling in swampy soils and various other water bodies.
Contraindications to the use of cane
Contraindications to the use of various cane-based drugs and preparations have not been identified by modern scientists.
