Duspatalin: instructions for use

Duspatalin
Duspatalin

Duspatalin is a myotropic antispasmodic that helps to eliminate spasm of intestinal smooth muscles. In this case, the natural contractions of the intestinal wall will not be disturbed. Therefore, the drug can be taken without fear that the process of movement of feces through the intestines will stop. The drug is aimed exclusively at eliminating painful sensations.

The therapeutic effect of Duspatalin allows it to be used to relieve intestinal colic, irritable bowel syndrome, biliary colic, pain in the stomach, regardless of their etiology. The drug is prescribed for functional disorders of the digestive system.

Duspatalin is manufactured in Holland by Abbot Healthcare Products, B. V. The drug can be purchased in the form of 135 g tablets and 200 mg capsules. The encapsulated form contains a larger amount of the main active ingredient compared to tablets. Due to this, it is possible to achieve a long-term effect from taking the drug. Therefore, the capsule packaging contains the word "retard", which is translated from English as "to slow down".

The capsules are covered with a dense gelatin-based shell; white granules are contained inside each such capsule. Capsule markings: "245", "S", "7". Available in packs containing 10, 20, 30, 50, 60 and 90 capsules.

The tablets are round and white. They can be purchased in the same quantity as capsules, and also in packs of 15, 40, 100 and 120 pieces.

Regardless of the form of release, the main active ingredient remains the same - it is mebeverine. However, the auxiliary components in capsules and tablets are different. Their comparative characteristics are presented in the table.

The effect of taking

The effect of taking
The effect of taking

Taking Duspatalin allows you to relieve spasm from the smooth muscles of the digestive system. This is due to the elimination of tension, which provokes the appearance of pain. Since it is in the intestines that most of the smooth muscles are concentrated, the drug has the most pronounced effect on it. Elimination of hypertonicity occurs without affecting the organ's peristalsis. Therefore, the feces pass through the intestines without any slowdown. That is, Duspatalin has a targeted effect on the smooth muscles of the intestine, eliminating pain. In parallel, the sphincter of Oddi relaxes, which normalizes the outflow of bile and provides an analgesic effect in biliary colic.

If the activity of intestinal smooth muscles is increased, then taking Duspatalin will bring it back to normal. However, the organ's peristalsis will not be completely stopped, that is, its reflex hypotension will not occur.

After the drug passes through the organs of the digestive system, it enters the intestines, from where it is transferred to the liver with blood flow. There, certain biochemical reactions are triggered, and the drug is decomposed to the state of metabolites. In this form, it is excreted in the urine. The main active ingredient is not released from the capsule as quickly as from the tablets, so the therapeutic effect is extended for 16 hours. Moreover, for this it will be enough to take the drug once.

Instructions for use

Duspatalin tablet form

The drug is not crushed before ingestion, washed down with plain water. The medicine should be taken 30 minutes before meals.

It is permissible to take three tablets per day: in the morning, at lunchtime and in the evening. You should stop taking the drug after you feel better, that is, as soon as the pain stops.

The drug should not be abruptly canceled. You must adhere to the following scheme:

  • The first 7 days of cancellation: the drug is taken 1 tablet in the morning and at lunchtime, and 1/2 tablet is drunk in the evening.
  • From 7 to 14 days they drink a whole tablet in the morning and in the evening.
  • From 14 to 21 days in the morning, take a whole pill, and in the evening - 1/2 of the drug.
  • From 21 to 28 days take the drug 1 tablet in the morning.

According to this scheme, leading domestic clinicians who are engaged in the treatment of diseases of the digestive system propose to cancel the drug.

Depending on the specific case, the withdrawal scheme may be reviewed by the treating doctor. So, if after reducing the dose of the drug, the patient feels well, then it is possible to reduce the scheme of its cancellation to 14 days. If the patient feels unsatisfactory when the dose is reduced by 1 tablet, then it should be reduced by 1/2 tablet. The patient's well-being should be monitored for at least 2 days.

Most experts recommend reducing the dosage by 1/2 tablet. If there is a need for a faster withdrawal of the drug, then after 2 days, the dosage can be reduced again by 1/2 tablet. Provided that the patient's well-being does not deteriorate, such a scheme should hold out until the end of the week (the countdown starts from the first day of dose reduction). If the patient begins to feel worse, then they switch to the classic drug withdrawal scheme. If the trend is positive, you can continue. That is, at the beginning of each subsequent week, you will need to reduce the dose by 1/2 tablet, and after 2 days by another 1/2 tablet.

Abrupt withdrawal of the drug is unacceptable.

Capsules are not chewed, swallowed whole with plain water. The drug is taken 20 minutes before meals, 2 times a day.

The course of treatment is determined by the complete disappearance of pain and spasms. After that, you can begin to gradually reduce the dosage of the drug. As well as tablets, capsules cannot be abruptly abandoned. The dosage should be reduced gradually. Drug withdrawal scheme:

  1. The first 7-14 days you need to take 1 capsule in the morning.
  2. After 7-14 days, you must refuse to take the drug.

To determine how long it takes to cancel taking capsules - 7 or 14 days, after a week of taking 1 capsule a day, take a two-day break. If during this time the state of health does not deteriorate, then further treatment can be completely abandoned. Provided that the patient begins to feel worse, the course of therapy is extended for another 7 days, continuing to take 1 capsule in the morning. Then the drug is abandoned altogether.

Overdose

If a person has taken too large a dose of the drug, this will lead to increased nervous excitability. To neutralize the effect of the drug, you should rinse the stomach and take activated charcoal inside. In the future, the patient is shown symptomatic treatment.

Joint reception with other drugs

Duspatalin can be taken simultaneously with other medicines.

It should be noted that Duspatalin can provoke dizziness, therefore, during the therapeutic course, it is highly desirable to abandon activities that require increased concentration of attention.

Treatment of children with Duspatalin

Treatment of children with Duspatalin
Treatment of children with Duspatalin

Duspatalin is contraindicated in children under the age of 12.

If the child is already 12 years old, then the doctor may prescribe Duspatalin to him to eliminate spasm and pain in the intestines and other organs of the digestive system.

Doctors recommend taking the drug to children with the following disorders:

  • Severity and pain in the abdomen.
  • Intestinal colic.
  • Abdominal pain with overeating.
  • Pain in the abdomen due to nervous strain.
  • Irritable bowel syndrome in a child.
  • Pain with errors in nutrition. So, if a teenager suffers from abdominal pain due to functional digestive upset (the child has eaten a lot of muffins, fast food or drank a lot of soda water), then he should immediately take a Duspatalin capsule. Another capsule is drunk in the evening. The next day, treatment can be stopped, provided that the state of health has stabilized. If the child continues to feel unwell, the drug can be continued. When the treatment is delayed for more than 7 days, the drug will need to be discontinued gradually, according to the scheme that is recommended for an adult.

So, only a doctor can prescribe Duspatalin courses to a child. As a rule, this treatment regimen is rarely practiced. It is indicated for violations in the outflow of bile. Until the child's condition stabilizes, he will need to take two capsules of the drug a day. Cancellation of the drug lasts for 10 days, during which time the child receives 1 capsule per day. Then they refuse to take the drug altogether.

Taking Duspatalin during pregnancy

Taking Duspatalin during pregnancy
Taking Duspatalin during pregnancy

Antispasmodics are prescribed during pregnancy with increased uterine tone. For this purpose, women are prescribed No-shpa. However, when the spasm passes to the smooth muscles of the intestine, it is better to use Duspatalin. With hypertonicity of the uterus, this drug will be ineffective.

You should also use Duspatalin during pregnancy if spasm of the sphincter of Oddi is observed. This leads to impaired outflow of bile and abdominal pain.

Studies have been conducted regarding the effects of Duspatalin on the fetus. In the course of the experiments, it was possible to establish that the drug does not have a negative effect on the child in the womb. Therefore, if the doctor recommends taking the drug during pregnancy, then the benefits of its appointment cover all possible risks. Self-administration of Duspatalin is unacceptable, consultation with a specialist is mandatory.

During pregnancy, you can take only capsules, tablets are strictly contraindicated during this period. You should not combine the reception of Duspatalin with other antispasmodics, for example, with Papaverine or No-shpa.

The dose for pregnant women per day is 2 capsules. One of them is taken in the morning, and the second in the evening. The course of treatment continues until there is a noticeable improvement in well-being. The drug is canceled gradually, for this, for 14 days, they drink 1 capsule per day. After 14 days, they completely refuse to take the drug.

Duspatalin is often prescribed to women who, even before the moment of conception, suffered from spasms of the sphincter of Oddi. Often, this condition accompanies chronic inflammation of the pancreas or occurs after surgery for resection of the gallbladder.

If a woman has a spasm of the smooth muscles of the intestine against the background of emotional overstrain, or as a result of errors in the diet, then you can take the drug once. The cancellation scheme is not practiced in this case.

Reception of Duspatalin with pancreatitis

Reception of Duspatalin with pancreatitis
Reception of Duspatalin with pancreatitis

Duspatalin is an effective remedy for pain relief from pancreatitis. This process is always accompanied by a violation of the outflow of pancreatic juice and spasm of the sphincter of Oddi. This problem can be solved by taking Duspatalin.

The excretory ducts against the background of inflammation of the pancreas are spasmodic, and the juice is secreted in large quantities. As a result, the gland begins to digest itself with its own enzymes. In order to prevent such a situation, it is necessary to expand the excretory ducts, removing spasm from them. It is Duspatalin who copes with this problem better than other antispasmodics.

The drug is prescribed with a slight exacerbation of pancreatitis, which improves the patient's well-being. For treatment, capsules are used, taking them twice a day, 1 piece (morning and evening).

Treatment should be continued until the patient's condition stabilizes. Then the drug is gradually canceled.

Also, Duspatalin can be used to prevent exacerbation of inflammation of the pancreas, provided that the disease has a chronic course. To do this, take 1 capsule 2 times a day for 14 days, and then take one capsule a day for another 7 days. In the future, they refuse to use the drug altogether.

Combination of Duspatalin with alcoholic beverages

You can not combine the intake of the drug and alcohol. Alcoholic beverages help to increase vasospasm, smooth muscles of the intestine and pancreatic ducts. Therefore, the effect of taking the drug will not be achieved, or it will be minimal.

Side effects of the drug

Side effects of the drug
Side effects of the drug

Side effects while taking the drug are extremely rare. A study was conducted involving 8 antispasmodics that are used to treat irritable bowel syndrome. In the course of the experiment, it was possible to establish that Duspatalin from all drugs gives fewer side effects.

However, some patients may experience the following problems:

  • Dizziness;
  • Skin rashes;
  • Quincke edema and facial edema;
  • Allergy in the form of exanthema;
  • Itchy skin;
  • Headaches;
  • Diarrhea or constipation;
  • Nausea.

Contraindications

Duspatalin should not be prescribed to patients who have hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, or have an allergic reaction to taking it.

During gestation and lactation, the drug should be used with caution.

Reviews

Reviews
Reviews

Patients who received Duspatalin leave more positive reviews about it. They indicate that the drug allows you to quickly cope with intestinal and gastric colic, eliminate functional indigestion, abdominal pain after overeating.

Patients with irritable bowel syndrome note that Duspatalin makes it possible to get rid of pain, regulate stool, and reduce bloating. Patients who received antibacterial treatment often suffer from dysbiosis, against which severe abdominal pain is manifested. Duspatalin copes with this problem perfectly. The pain begins to subside after half an hour after the first dose of the drug. Moreover, the capsules are characterized by prolonged action.

Duspatalin has received positive reviews from patients suffering from inflammation of the pancreas and gallbladder. The drug quickly relieves spasm, which leads to the normalization of the patient's condition. Even with an exacerbation of pancreatitis and cholecystitis, pain can be completely overcome in 2-3 days. Patients with chronic pathologies take Duspatalin for prophylactic purposes and note its high efficiency in preventing the development of relapses.

Negative reviews about Duspatalin are extremely rare. They boil down to the fact that the drug did not allow to eliminate pain during exacerbation of inflammation of the pancreas or gallbladder. However, you should not expect a lightning-fast solution to the problem, since 2-3 days should pass to relieve pain, and not several hours. Therefore, such reviews can be considered not entirely justified.

Some people get frustrated with the drug, taking it off-label. Patients often indicate that Duspatalin did not help to cope with gastritis or stomach ulcers. But this drug is not intended to treat these diseases. Duspatalin is an antispasmodic and its main action is to reduce pain.

Reviews of experts

Practicing gynecologists note that Duspatalin allows you to get rid of intestinal colic in pregnant women, regardless of the nature of their occurrence.

Therapists and gastroenterologists point out that Duspatalin can be successfully used in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome, pancreatitis, cholecystitis, as well as to get rid of negative symptoms that occur with functional digestive disorders.

Doctors indicate that it is impossible to use Duspatalin as a monocomponent for pancreatitis. The drug should be included in the complex therapy regimen. Otherwise, it will not be possible to achieve recovery.

What to choose: Duspatalin or Trimedat?

Duspatalin or Trimedat
Duspatalin or Trimedat

Trimedat and Duspatalin have a similar therapeutic effect, since both of these drugs can relieve muscle spasm. The difference is that Trimedat has a wider spectrum of action than Duspatalin, therefore it is used to treat severe pathologies of the digestive system. If the patient has chronic pancreatitis or cholecystitis, or there is an exacerbation of the disease, then Duspatalin can be taken.

In any case, the doctor should prescribe this or that drug, starting from the individual characteristics of the patient's body. Trimedat is more suitable for some patients, and Duspatalin for others.

What to choose: Duspatalin or Dicetel?

Dicetel has a less pronounced effect compared to Duspatalin. The drug will not completely remove the spasm from the ducts of the pancreas and gallbladder, which occurs against the background of inflammation of these organs. In addition, taking Dicetel is associated with a greater risk of developing allergic reactions than taking Duspatalin.

However, if a person has a digestive upset caused by an irrational approach to nutrition, Dicetel can be used. In this case, the drug will cope well with the task of pain relief.

What is the price of duspatalin?

Duspatalin is an imported drug, so its price cannot be low. The average cost per package of a drug in 30 capsules is 380-465 rubles, depending on the outlet.
