Symptoms and treatment of vulgar impetigo
Vulgar impetigo refers to pyoderma caused by both staphylococci and streptococci. Several types of vulgar impetigo are described in the literature: superficial form, deep atypical varieties of the disease, chronic form of ulcerative vegetative pyoderma, chancriform pyoderma and pyogenic granuloma.
The provoking factors can be previous itchy dermatoses or their current presence, microtrauma of the skin, pollution, prolonged contact of the skin with saliva or other secretions.
Symptoms of Vulgar Impetigo
Against the background of hyperemic and swollen skin, streptococcal impetigo (flickena) is acutely formed, inside which there is a cloudy purulent content. After drying, a thick crust similar to a honey crust forms in place of the elements. Vulgar impetigo in most cases is localized around the mouth, eye sockets, nostrils. In rare cases, pathological foci are found on the trunk and limbs. Children, girls and young women are more often ill. Regional enlargement of the lymph nodes may accompany the pathology.
The development cycle of the elements is from eight to fifteen days, after the crust has fallen off, pigmentation remains on the skin for several days, which soon disappears. Pustules, which are located separately from each other, can merge with each other with a prolonged course of the disease.
Chronic ulcerative and ulcerative vegetative pyoderma develops with a decrease in the body's defenses. The infection mainly affects patients suffering from diseases of internal organs, disorders of the nervous and endocrine systems. Localized neuro-trophic lesions and disorders of the vascular system are of great importance. This happens as a result of a violation of blood supply, traumatic skin lesions, prolonged exposure to low temperatures, increased vascular permeability, lack of vitamins, or due to infectious diseases. The place of localization of foci is often the skin of the lower extremities, the back surface of the hands. The disease is most susceptible to men from 40 to 60 years old.
At the initial stage of the disease, streptococcal ecthyma, a furuncle or a characteristic deep infiltrate appears, it soon necrotizes and an ulcer forms in its place, which reaches a significant size, it is round or oval, with scalloped edges. In the depths of the infiltrates, deep purulent cavities are formed, which communicate with each other. Under the crust, the ulcerative process spreads along the periphery, forming lesions of various forms. Along the edge of pathological foci of considerable size, there is a constant formation of new elements with purulent contents. The process affects the deep layers of the skin: epidermis, dermis, hypodermis, muscle tissue, and sometimes bones. After recovery, scars may remain on patients' skin.
Symptoms of vulgar impetigo are accompanied by insomnia, loss of strength, anemia, and nagging pains. The disease is chronic and can last for several months or years.
Treatment for vulgar impetigo
Treatment of vulgar impetigo and methods of prevention of the disease are similar to the procedures carried out for streptococcal impetigo.
