Is it really that simple …
It turns out that a common health problem like constipation is not always a medical condition that needs medical treatment. In most cases, it is a manifestation of lifestyle and nutritional defects, or age-related changes in an aging organism. After all, a person cannot constantly take any medications, especially if constipation is chronic in nature with a long course. In such cases, only appropriate nutrition can really help, which over time will have a positive effect on the work of the entire small and large intestine, as well as the rectum.
There are general and specific questions regarding diet therapy for constipation of various origins, which require clear identification. The first of these is the appointment of a dietary table according to the medical nomenclature. In this regard, all patients are shown diet number 3.
In general terms, it can be characterized as follows:
- Sparing food capable of good assimilation;
- Stimulation of intestinal motor activity;
- Minimal gas formation and irritation of the mucous membrane of the intestinal wall;
- Adequate fluid intake;
- The predominance of plant products containing a lot of fiber;
- Warm food with frequent fractional intake;
- Exclusion of rough and spicy dishes.
A constipation diet is necessary to treat bowel disorders. You should carefully review your diet: adhering to the correct diet plays a huge role in the treatment of this disease. People suffering from constipation should definitely know which foods help to empty the intestines, and which ones, on the contrary, will complicate this process. Below is a list of foods that can help you empty your bowels and a list of foods that make it harder.
What to eat for constipation
- Bread and bakery products. Preference should be given not to the freshest products of this series, but at least with a 12-hour exposure. They are much better and faster to digest and move through the intestines. As for the flour from which they are baked, it should definitely be coarse grades containing bran of animal or wheat origin. It is allowed to use biscuit-type baked goods, oatmeal, and uncomfortable baked goods.
-
Meat and fish products. For lovers of such dishes, such a diet can be a serious test, since it limits the use of food of animal origin. It is allowed to accept easily digestible varieties of meat, namely chicken, turkey, rabbit. With regard to the method of their preparation, it can be boiled or stewed whole pieces of meat, or minced to mince and cooked in the form of steam cutlets, meatballs, various meat fillings in bakery products and vegetable salads. Fish is also allowed, especially low-fat types of river and sea types. The cooking method is identical to meat products.
- Eggs, milk and dairy products. They have a very beneficial effect on the state of digestion in terms of treating constipation. Their systematic use normalizes the intestinal microflora, thereby influencing the processes of correct formation of feces. These products include yoghurts, kefir, yogurt, fermented baked milk, cottage cheese and processed cheese, sour cream. With respect to whole milk or other types of milk, it can be consumed in moderation only by those individuals who are not lactose intolerant. Otherwise, you can provoke the development of persistent diarrhea.
-
Cereals, pasta and liquid meals. It is recommended for all patients with constipation to use soups, borscht, broths based on light varieties of poultry and rabbit meat. Also hated pork dishes are allowed. Vegetable soups, green and beetroot borsch have proven themselves well. The amount of pasta and rice should be limited or excluded from the daily diet. From their episodic use, there will be no great harm.
-
What fruits can you eat for constipation? It is very important, in spite of the season, to consume fruits and vegetables, as they are enriched with fiber, which plays a basic role in the formation of feces of normal consistency. Citrus fruits, plums, apricots, as well as dried fruits based on them (dried apricots, raisins, prunes) are recommended. Do not forget about vegetables in the form of salads with various vegetable oils. Of vegetables, beets, carrots, cabbage, tomatoes in moderation can become very effective.
- Apples for constipation occupy a special place, since daily consumption of one or two apples on an empty stomach can often be a fairly effective measure to eliminate constipation. If we also take into account the fact that this product is very common, then its application does not cause any difficulties at all. You can also eat baked apples.
- Dates for constipation are also a very necessary product. They are mainly used dried. It is allowed to take whole dried fruits without seeds, as well as various decoctions based on them. To do this, mix 4-5 dates with a glass of water and bring to a boil. Take the cooled broth on an empty stomach, 30-5o ml. You can also add various vegetable or butter to it.
- Kiwi for constipation is best consumed raw, without a crust. It is quite effective, both independently and in the form of various combinations in fruit salads with apples, citrus fruits, plums, apricots under yoghurt sauce. Eating such a dish for breakfast will not only help in the fight against constipation, but also saturate the body with vitamins and energy resources.
- Juices and decoctions. Basically, they are prepared based on the listed products. Their combination can be very diverse, depending on the tastes and preferences of a particular person. Recommended decoctions of rosehip, fresh beet juice on an empty stomach, the use of apricot, carrot, apple, tomato juice throughout the day. You can also prepare compotes based on them. Other products that are also shown to be taken in the morning include honey (1 tbsp. L.), Which is washed down with a glass of cold water.
There are also many special foods that can help normalize stool, see the article - What helps with constipation?
What should not be eaten with constipation?
It is important to remember that non-observance of this point of the dietary table number 3 not only aggravates the usual constipation, but also completely eliminates those positive aspects that are achieved through proper nutrition or medication. Therefore, it is strict to enforce. The list of such products includes:
- Bread and pastries made from butter dough;
- Rich broths from fatty meats;
- Excessive consumption of rice;
- Hard-boiled eggs, smoked dishes, canned food and spices;
- Fatty meat: duck, goose, beef and the same types of fish;
- Black strong tea and coffee, alcoholic drinks, jelly;
- Blueberry, quince, dogwood;
- Cream dishes and chocolate;
- Onion and garlic;
- Radish, radish, turnip;
- Spicy dishes and condiments;
- Bananas, pears, lingonberries;
But, if it happened that, for some reason, these food products were consumed, then appropriate measures must be taken without fail to neutralize their strengthening effect. This can be achieved either by eating the appropriate food recommended for the treatment of constipation or with laxatives. You can't let everything go by itself, otherwise long-term efforts to eliminate constipation, which have been achieved for many months, may be in vain.
Additional Tips
It is impossible to choose one diet for patients with constipation, since everything depends largely on the nature of the underlying disease, due to which there was a violation of the rate of bowel emptying. But there are some tips to help everyone. For example, if people suffering from constipation do not have heart disease, edema, then one and a half to two liters of liquid can be drunk per day, this will speed up the emptying of the intestines.
It is imperative to follow the diet: take food at least 5 times a day and do not take long breaks between meals. The cooking technique does not really matter, but when preparing a salad, for example, you do not need to chop carrots, radishes and other vegetables too much, use a coarser grater or a larger cut.
