Symptoms and treatment of gastric emptying

Gastroptosis is a prolapse of the stomach of varying severity. In men, this pathology occurs somewhat less frequently than in women. The disease in most cases refers to congenital pathologies and affects more often asthenic people with a weakened ligamentous apparatus.

Abdominal prolapse can occur due to a sharp weakness of the muscles of the abdominal wall with a decrease in body weight, after labor, tumor resection, and removal of fluid from the abdominal cavity. In this case, the cause of gastroptosis is the weakening of the ligamentous apparatus. In addition, pathology can develop with omission of the diaphragm, protein starvation, and vitamin deficiency.

The severity of symptoms characterizes three stages of the disease.

Symptoms of gastroptosis (gastric emptying)

Symptoms of gastroptosis (gastric emptying) may be mild or absent. In some cases, patients report heaviness in the abdomen, nausea, loss of appetite, flatulence, slight pain in the stomach after overeating, and sometimes back pain.

The pain recedes if the patient takes a horizontal position. Also, pain can appear for a short time when running and while jumping.

Quite often, gastroptosis is accompanied by constipation, which is associated with a weakening of the tone of the muscles of the stomach and intestines. Patients complain of weakness, decreased performance, increased irritability.

If the prolapse of the stomach proceeds against the background of the prolapse of the kidneys and liver, the patient needs to carefully monitor his diet, avoiding a sharp decrease in body weight.

Treatment of gastroptosis (gastric emptying)

Treatment of gastroptosis (gastric emptying) must begin with diet. The patient's food should be frequent, separate, high-calorie enough and contain foods that are easy to digest. With a decrease in appetite, the doctor may prescribe preparations based on herbal raw materials containing bitterness and having a choleretic effect.

If it is necessary to stimulate digestion, foods rich in fiber are introduced into the patient's diet. Laxatives are prescribed if necessary. Patients should lead an active lifestyle, engage in physiotherapy exercises, do a special massage of the abdomen, but do not overstrain, water aerobics and wearing bandages are also useful.

It is better to engage in physiotherapy exercises in the initial stages of pathology in the absence of symptoms. Systematic training helps to strengthen the muscle corset that holds the organs in the abdominal cavity.

Classes are held in a lying position on a couch or on the floor; if the exercises are performed on a couch, then it is better to raise its leg end to ensure the physiological position of the stomach. Gymnastics is carried out at a calm pace, without sudden movements. It is not recommended to independently engage in physiotherapy exercises without consulting a doctor. It is important to remember that in the later stages of the disease, such loads are contraindicated.

It is better to complete the exercises with a light massage of the abdomen, for this you need to lie on the floor and bend your knees. After completing all the procedures, you need to lie down for about half an hour, ensuring the normal position of the stomach, for this you need to slightly raise your legs above the floor.
