Goiter treatment with dried cherry bark

One of the most effective remedies for the treatment of thyroid goiter is the dried cherry bark. In contrast to the bark of a living tree, dried cherries are richer in nutrients. The reason is as follows: along the wood and bast (tubular formations in the structure of a tree, analogs of blood vessels in animals) of a living tree, useful substances are transported from roots to leaves in both directions. In the body of the tree there is a continuous flow of fluids.

When a tree dies naturally, most of the nutrients and minerals are transported to the inner layers of the bark and remain there. It is for this reason that their content in the structure of a dried tree is maximum.

Finding and collecting dried cherry bark

Dry cherry bark
Dry cherry bark

When looking for a suitable bark, several rules should be followed:

  • Raw materials must only be sought in areas remote from highways and residential areas. The tissues of the tree (in particular foliage and inner bark layers) are highly absorbent. Toxic substances and other harmful elements are absorbed by the wood. If you prepare a tincture or infusion from such a bark, there is a high risk of getting poisoned, and more harm to the body than to help.
  • Cherry prefers deciduous or mixed forests. It grows most rapidly and abundantly in areas with a high content of chernozem.
  • When looking for cherries, single trees should be preferred. Cherry cannot dry out in whole glades. In this case, the cause of the death of the tree, most likely, lies in the disease.

Collecting dried cherries is quite difficult for both beginners and experienced herbalists:

  • In no case should you collect bark from a tree that is too abundantly covered with moss. If the trunk and branches are covered with more than 50% moss (approximately), the raw material will not work. Liver mosses parasitize trees, taking away all nutrients. This means that it was moss, not age, that caused the death of the tree;
  • When cut, the bark should give off a cherry flavor. If you smell mushrooms or musty, the bark is dangerous;
  • The color of the bark should range from dark brown to fiery red. If it is lighter, it means that the cherry has not yet dried out, and the nutrients have not accumulated in the required amount;
  • There should be no foliage on the tree. If there are branches covered with foliage on the cherry, it has not yet completely dried out. Such raw materials are not suitable for procurement;
  • The inner layers of the bark should not be covered with a white coating. If plaque is present, then the tree has died as a result of parasitic or bacterial infection. The whitish matter is a waste product of saprophytic organisms (consuming rotting products). Their secretions are the strongest toxin and allergen;
  • Procurement of raw materials should be done from early spring to late autumn. In winter, you need to be very careful, because it is extremely difficult to determine whether a tree is completely dry or not;
  • It is not worth collecting raw materials from a tree that has dried up more than 7 years ago. Most of the nutrients are destroyed, cherry tissues become loose and turn into dust;
  • Young cherries rarely dry out for natural reasons. Their examination must be approached with special attention.

Collection and procurement technology:

  • A longitudinal cut is made on the tree trunk;
  • The top layer of the bark (epidermis or cork, depending on the age of the tree) is removed. It is desirable in this way to process parts of the trunk of different heights;
  • The internal tissues are examined. There should be no plaque, the color is rich brown or bright red. The smell is natural, cherry. If at least one of the conditions is not met, such a tree cannot be processed;
  • The top layer is completely cleaned. The fibers of the inner layers should be removed with movements from top to bottom;
  • The bark is dried in a dark and dry place. As soon as the workpiece stops bending and breaks under physical impact, the raw material is ready for use.

Seaweed (kelp) will fill the iodine deficiency

Seaweed
Seaweed

Laminaria (the trivial name is seaweed) is a brown alga. The cells of this alga have the unique ability to absorb and store huge amounts of iodine from seawater. Kelp contains many times more iodine than any other product. This product is the absolute leader.

Most severe pathologies of the thyroid gland begin with iodine deficiency in the body. For prevention, drugs containing this element are prescribed, as well as a special diet.

Laminaria is a profitable alternative to expensive iodine preparations. For preventive purposes, it is enough to consume 30-40 grams per day. If you are taking drugs, the consumption of kelp will also not be superfluous.

Especially effectively seaweed helps with hypothyroidism, when the thyroid gland cannot cope and produces less specific hormones than the body needs. Therefore, with hyperthyroidism, you should refrain from consuming algae.

In addition to replenishing the iodine deficiency, kelp actively removes radioactive substances from the body, which play an important role in the mechanism of formation of thyroid diseases (goiter, etc.).

Other Seafood to Replenish Iodine Deficiency

In addition to kelp, other seafood is also rich in iodine. If a person has the initial signs of a thyroid goiter, a euthyroid state (when the disease has not yet manifested itself, but the focus is already forming), it is vital to include these products in your diet.

List of foods high in iodine:

  • Silver hake. This fish is in second place after kelp in terms of iodine content. When cooking, it is important to adhere to technology. Iodine compounds are extremely unstable to high temperatures. For maximum benefits, hake should be cooked at just under 100 ° C. Therefore, in no case should you cook hake, it is better to steam it or bake it in the oven;
  • Cod. Another type of fish, rich in iodine. 100 grams contains 135 mcg of this important trace mineral. The best cooking method is to bake at 65-70 degrees until tender;
  • Shrimp. Despite their modest size, these crustaceans are a real storehouse of iodine. For 100 grams of the product, there is 110 μg of the element. The main cooking method is cooking. 100 ° C is harmful to iodine, but there is a way to avoid its destruction. To prevent this, the shrimp should be boiled for no more than one and a half to two minutes.

Selenium deficiency is another cause of thyroid disease

Brazilian nut
Brazilian nut

Selenium plays an equally important role in the production of thyroid hormones than iodine.

Despite the fact that selenium does not directly participate in the synthesis of specific active substances (unlike iodine), it contributes to the transformation of some substances into others. The fact is that the course of hormone production itself is catalyzed (accelerated) by special substances - enzymes. Triiodothyroxine (T3) is formed due to the transformation of the produced T4-hormone (tetraiodothyroxine) under the influence of a special enzyme iodothyronine deiodinase, the main component of which is the element selenium.

With a lack of selenium, the enzyme is produced in insufficient quantities, which also affects the synthesis of T3. As a result, pathologies of the thyroid gland develop with low levels of hormones (hypothyroidism).

Selenium is also a part of enzymes that destroy hydrogen peroxide and bind free radicals. Due to this, the amount of harmful oxidative processes in the thyroid gland is reduced.

To make up for the selenium deficiency, it is important to include the following foods in the diet:

  • Brazilian nut. The fatty fruits of this plant are the absolute record holders for the content of the element. They must be consumed with caution, no more than 2-4 fruits per day to avoid excess selenium;
  • Dates. The second in selenium content. It is not recommended to consume more than 15-20 pieces per day;
  • Fried pork kidneys;
  • Crayfish or lobsters;
  • Porcini mushrooms.

Also among the available products are coconut flakes, sunflower seeds, garlic, etc.

How to live with a sick thyroid?

Modern methods of treating thyroid goiter allow minimizing the negative manifestations of diseases and improving the patient's quality of life. The patient can live a normal, fulfilling life.

However, the pathologies of this organ impose a number of restrictions on a person:

  • You must adhere to a diet. If hypothyroidism is observed, iodine-rich foods should be on the table. Otherwise, their consumption should be minimized or eliminated;
  • You should not eat "unhealthy" foods: fried, excessively salty, fatty, etc. It is advisable to completely abandon their consumption. Only occasionally is it permissible to eat such food;
  • It is recommended to reduce the time spent in the sun;
  • Every few months you need to visit an endocrinologist to determine the state of the thyroid gland and, if necessary, prescribe special treatment.
