Symptoms and treatment of chest chondrosis

Chondrosis occurs in most people, both men and women, over the age of 50. However, the first symptoms of the disease appear much earlier, at the age of 35–40. In this case, the correct diagnosis is of great importance, which makes it possible to distinguish pathology from a number of other dangerous diseases.

Thoracic chondrosis refers to complex degenerative diseases that occur with symptoms of dystrophy of the intervertebral discs, which causes the loss of disc elasticity and flattening. The pathological process causes compression of the nerve endings and contributes to the development of pain syndrome already at an early stage of the disease. A particularly dangerous complication of the disease is considered to be a violation of the innervation of internal organs and, as a result, a violation of their function.

A dangerous complication of thoracic chondrosis is a herniated intervertebral disc, which in most cases is treated only by surgery, therefore, when the first manifestations of the disease appear, it is important to start treatment.

Thoracic chondrosis develops in most cases against the background of metabolic disorders, vascular pathologies, and a sedentary lifestyle. The cause of the disease can also be a curvature of the spine, poor posture from childhood. Pathology is accompanied by damage to the intervertebral discs, ligamentous-muscular apparatus of the thoracic spine. The development of the disease is accompanied by a progressive impairment of blood supply, nutrition and innervation in the area of the intervertebral discs.

Symptoms of chest chondrosis

Among the symptoms of thoracic chondrosis, patients often complain of pain and discomfort in the heart and lungs. In this case, the pain can be given to the left arm and shoulder, occur at the time of inhalation or exhalation. Manifestations of thoracic chondrosis may be mild before the onset of an exacerbation, resembling a heart attack in its symptoms. Patients have shortness of breath against the background of acute pain when breathing. An uncomfortable posture during sleep, lifting weights, etc.can provoke an attack.

Distinctive symptoms of thoracic chondrosis, which make it possible to differentiate the disease from angina pectoris and myocardial infarction, are: the presence of flattening and reduction in the height of the intervertebral discs (or displacement of the vertebrae), the absence of specific manifestations of a heart attack and changes in laboratory parameters. The subside of pain or its complete disappearance after taking nitroglycerin also indicates cardiovascular pathology, in this case the diagnosis of "chest chondrosis" is excluded. Another important diagnostic sign is the nature of the pain syndrome: in the case of chondrosis, the pain will depend on respiratory movements, increasing at the height of inhalation and exhalation. Soreness along the line of the spine and on the side of it also makes it possible to speak with confidence about the presence of degenerative changes in the intervertebral discs.

Treatment of thoracic chondrosis must be carried out without fail at the first symptoms of the disease, before the onset of unbearable pain and the development of a complication in the form of a herniated disc.

Patients need to normalize metabolic processes in the body, lose weight, stabilize blood pressure and blood glucose concentration.

Physical therapy is very effective in treating the disease, especially if the exercises are selected by a competent specialist.

As general recommendations, one can also note the need for proper organization of the workplace, adherence to the principles of rational nutrition, in addition, it is better for patients to sleep on a hard mattress.

An exacerbation of the disease requires treatment with anti-inflammatory ointments and the use of pain relievers.
