Symptoms and treatment of cervical chondrosis
Chondrosis is associated with aging of the spine and destruction of the intervertebral discs. Cervical chondrosis is characterized by degenerative changes and symptoms that manifest themselves precisely in the region of the cervical spine.
Symptoms of cervical chondrosis
The disease can manifest itself in different ways, accompanied by the gradual destruction of the vertebral discs, proceeding latently. The latency period can last for some time without causing any disturbance to the patient.
Symptoms of cervical chondrosis can appear suddenly, most often with an awkward turn of the head, and last up to 10 days. There is a sharp, piercing pain in the neck, which gets worse over time. Patients are worried about radiating pain in the back of the head, headaches, chest pains, stiffness of the muscles of the neck and shoulder girdle. In the people, these symptoms are called "neck lumbago". The pathology is also characterized by restriction of movement in the cervical and upper thoracic spine, as well as in the shoulder joint. The muscle fibers of the painful areas are tense.
In some cases, the disease develops gradually. At the initial stage, in addition to pain in the neck, there is a violation of sensitivity, discomfort occurs. The nature of the pain syndrome differs from lumbago and is aching in nature, but at the same time, it bothers the patient quite strongly, causing insomnia, fatigue and increased irritability. In the area of the cervicothoracic spine, increased muscle tone and impaired mobility of the joints and vertebrae are also noted, the severity of the symptoms of the disease in this case increases gradually. After two weeks, the manifestations of chondrosis disappear.
The danger of cervical chondrosis lies in the fact that, gradually progressing, the pathology can be complicated by herniated intervertebral discs, and this disease requires only surgical treatment. In any case, cervical chondrosis significantly reduces the quality of life, limiting the activity of patients.
Treatment of cervical chondrosis
Cervical chondrosis requires mandatory treatment and diagnostic procedures. Treatment of cervical chondrosis is carried out in a comprehensive manner with the appointment of physiotherapeutic procedures, massage, manual therapy and reflexology sessions, exercise therapy to the patient. The use of medicinal drugs in the form of tablets and injections allows you to relieve pain, reduce inflammation in the initial stages of the disease and helps to restore the structure of intervertebral discs and improve metabolic processes in tissues with prolonged use.
