Burning and itching in the urethra
Burning sensation in the urethra
A burning sensation in the urethra (urethra) is predominantly a sign of some kind of infectious inflammatory disease of the urinary tract. These diseases can be transmitted by various harmful microorganisms, including both the causative agents of sexually transmitted diseases (chlamydia, gonococcus, Trichomonas), and staphylococcus sticks, streptococcus, Escherichia coli, etc. Most inflammatory diseases are still sexually transmitted, so the burning sensation when urinating should be given close attention. Burning sensation is the main symptom of urethritis, sexually transmitted diseases (gonorrhea, chlamydia) and inflammation of the prostate gland.
Also, a burning sensation can be provoked by some factors, for example, sour or spicy drinks, alcohol, tea and coffee, medicines, chemicals that are contained in intimate hygiene products. Also, the cause of a burning sensation in the urethra is often trauma during masturbation and intercourse.
A burning sensation in the urethra is a solid reason for visiting a urologist. The patient needs a bacteriological analysis of urine. For men, the prostate gland is examined, and in case of relapses of the disease, the kidneys are examined using ultrasound, and the urethra and bladder are examined in more detail using endoscopy.
It is imperative to pay attention to the hygiene products that the patient uses, because often soaps, perfumed gels or deodorants can contain chemicals that irritate the urethra.
Sometimes inflammation of the lining of the bladder (cystitis) becomes the cause of a burning sensation in the urethra. Inflammation occurs when an infection of any kind enters the bladder. In some cases, patients may experience symptoms of urinary incontinence. This happens when the muscles that close the bladder exit cannot prevent the bladder from contracting.
An extremely common cause of burning sensation in the urethra is inflammation of its mucous membrane - urethritis. It can manifest itself with frequent urge to urinate and severe discomfort during this process. The sick person feels itching, burning, pain and pressure. Purulent discharge from the urethra is also possible.
The danger of cystitis and urethritis is that the inflammatory process can reach the kidneys, which will cause inflammation (pyelonephritis).
When should you see a doctor? If the burning sensation lasts more than a day, is accompanied by any discharge, the urge to urinate becomes more frequent, or there is a suspicion of a possible sexually transmitted disease. In this case, the patient's sexual partner is also subject to examination.
Itching in the urethra
Itching in the urethra is a symptom of various diseases of the genitals and urinary tract. Most often, it does not manifest itself, but is accompanied by other unpleasant sensations - for example, pain and burning sensation when urinating. Often itching is a manifestation of gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, urogenital candidiasis, chlamydia and urethritis.
Trichomoniasis occurs when Trichomonas actively reproduce in the urethra. Often, burning and itching are the only obvious manifestations of this disease. At the same time, trichomoniasis causes a large number of serious complications.
Urogenital candidiasis has a fungal etiology, and pruritus is a very common symptom. Candidiasis is dangerous with a high probability of developing various complications - for example, prostatitis, urethritis, cystitis, etc.
The terrible venereal disease gonorrhea affects the entire genitourinary system. Itching in the urethra in most cases is its early symptom, after which painful sensations, burning sensations and purulent discharge from the urethra usually appear.
We must not forget that itching never appears without any reason and always indicates the presence of a certain disease of the genitourinary system. If you feel itching in the urethra, be sure to consult a doctor who will determine the cause of the discomfort and prescribe treatment before more serious inflammation and other complications appear.
