Symptoms and treatment of viral cervicitis
Cervicitis is accompanied by an inflammatory process in the cervical region. One of the most common types of this pathology is viral sexually transmitted cervicitis. At the site of localization of the infectious process, the disease is divided into exocervicitis and endocervicitis. In the first case, the tissues of the cervix located outside (its vaginal part) are affected, with endocervicitis, inflammation is found on the inside of the cervix (in the region of the cervical canal).
According to the generally accepted classification, the inflammatory process is divided into specific and non-specific. Viral cervicitis is accompanied by a specific inflammation, a feature of which is the transmission of pathogens through unprotected sexual contact. This category of infectious diseases includes gonorrhea, chlamydia, trichomoniasis, syphilis, etc.
Symptoms of viral cervicitis
Cervicitis most often affects women of childbearing age. The main symptoms of viral cervicitis include pain in the lower abdomen, discomfort, severe itching in the external genital area, discharge mixed with mucus or pus. The acute stage of the disease is accompanied by abundant discharge, the chronic stage is scarce.
The diagnosis of "cervicitis" can only be made by a gynecologist. In addition to the usual examination on a gynecological chair, a specialist can conduct a colposcopy, measure the acidity of the vagina, examine the cells of the affected tissues under a microscope and conduct a bacteriological examination of a smear. Special diagnostic methods include polymerase chain reaction, DNA probe, and enzyme immunoassay.
Treatment of viral cervicitis
The tactics of treating viral cervicitis are selected depending on the nature of the pathogenic flora identified in smears from the cervical canal. Cervicitis of a viral or bacterial nature is treated with antibacterial drugs and sulfonamides, as well as antiviral drugs. Anaerobic microflora responds well to metronidazole suppositories.
To increase the effectiveness of therapy with drugs, douching is supplemented. When carrying out these procedures, a decoction of chamomile, a solution of lactic acid is used.
To obtain a lasting effect, it is important to undergo complex treatment and drink the full course of medications prescribed by your doctor.
