Symptoms and treatment of purulent cervicitis
Mucous purulent cervicitis is characterized by the presence of an inflammatory process in the cylindrical layer of epithelial cells and subepithelial lesions in the cervical region, as well as damage to all sections of the columnar epithelium located ectopically outside the cervix.
Symptoms of purulent cervicitis
The presence of mucous purulent cervicitis in a woman makes it possible to suspect urethritis in a partner, which is caused by similar pathogens, but it is more difficult to diagnose. Purulent cervicitis is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases and is the most common cause of pelvic inflammatory disease. The presence of symptoms of purulent cervicitis in expectant mothers often leads to disruption of the normal course of pregnancy and childbirth.
Improvement of methods for diagnosing the disease and timely treatment of patients helps to make the fight against the spread of purulent cervicitis more effective. The cause of the development of pathology, as a rule, is the bacillus of trachoma or gonococcus. According to unofficial statistics, in one case out of three, the disease is caused by ureaplasmas, while the pathology proceeds with characteristic symptoms different from cervicitis caused by the herpes virus, Trichomonas and Candida albicans. Cervicitis, which is of a viral nature, proceeds with damage to the stratified squamous and columnar epithelium in the cervical region.
When diagnosing, a study of mucus and pus-containing discharge from the cervical canal is carried out using a technology similar to the study of discharge from the urethra in men. Determination of the number of segmented leukocytes in smears can also be carried out, the nature of the discharge without visible mucus can be investigated using Papanicolaou or Gram staining. If men do not have noticeable urethral discharge, a diagnosis of urethritis is made using similar methods.
The presence of an ectopia of the cervix makes its mucous membrane edematous, contact of the cervix with a tampon allows one to judge bleeding. Ectopia is also considered one of the signs of the onset of mucous and purulent cervicitis, which can also be caused by chlamydia. In this case, in the biopsy, the infiltration of epithelial cells and stroma is most often noted by plasma cells, lymphocytes, and histiocytes, the centers of which have characteristic features.
Treatment of purulent cervicitis
Treatment of purulent cervicitis can be successfully carried out if several recommendations are followed.
It is important to understand that the treatment of the disease is not complete without the appointment of antibiotics or sulfa drugs, and the sowing of pathogenic microflora allows you to choose the most effective drug.
Cervicitis, which is believed to be caused by chlamydia, requires the appointment of tetracycline or doxycycline. If anaerobes are detected, patients are recommended metronidazole in vaginal suppositories. If the disease is of a viral nature, then, in addition to the main treatment, drugs are selected to increase the body's defenses. Herbal preparations based on chamomile or calendula, as well as lactic acid, are selected from the number of additional disinfecting drugs.
Launched purulent cervicitis can cause severe complications.
