Larkspur is an annual plant, reaching no more than 70 cm in height. On erect stems, which have pressed hairs, there are successive leaves, the upper ones of which are sessile, and the lower ones have petioles. The bright purple, blue, white and pink flowers of the plant have many stamens, and they are collected in rare inflorescences-brushes. The fruit of the plant is a leaflet, the length of which is 1–1.5 cm. The fruit contains ovoid seeds of blackish-brown color.

From the beginning of summer, the larkspur begins to bloom and bear fruit, and so on until the end of the summer period. Larkspur can only be propagated by seed. From one bush of a plant, you can collect about 4000 seeds for planting. Seeds can germinate in fall or spring. Larkspur can be seen in Eurasia, North America and Russia. Larkspur grows on the borders, fallow lands, wastelands, vegetable gardens, orchards, roads and vineyards.

Useful properties of larkspur

In folk medicine, this plant is used with great care. For the preparation of medicines, grass and larkspur seeds are used. Despite the fact that larkspur is a poisonous plant, it is used for medicinal purposes. Grass and plant roots contain alkaloids, micro- and macroelements, and organic acids. Tea is prepared from larkspur, which has a diuretic effect. For diseases of the lungs, genitourinary system, stagnation of bile and diseases of the pleura, a decoction of the herb of larkspur is used.

Larkspur has the property of stopping blood, therefore it is used for bleeding. Many nervous diseases are treated with larkspur preparations.

Modern folk medicine uses drugs prepared on the basis of larkspur as agents that help in the treatment of asthma, jaundice, eye and liver diseases, sclerosis, vomiting, and even with delayed menstruation. Larkspur ointment is used for fractures and rheumatism. Compresses and lotions for external use are made from the decoction of larkspur as an anesthetic for bone fractures.

For burns and wounds, fresh larkspur juice helps. A powder is prepared from the plant, which has an antiparasitic effect. Some people use larkspur in the hope of ending a sexually transmitted disease. Larkspur is used as an astringent for diarrhea, ulcers, boils and abscesses. The plant is applied internally and externally, it depends on the disease.

Larkspur ointment will help to get rid of pain in the stump after an operation associated with amputation, with dislocations, sciatica, stretching of the joints. Water decoction can cure gastritis, stomach ulcers, remove toothache or restore the body after exhaustion.

Infusion of larkspur. To prepare it, you need to take 2 teaspoons of herbs and pour 800 ml of boiling water over them. The composition is left to infuse for 8 hours, closing the container with a lid. The brewing room should be warm. Take such an infusion for diseases of the liver, kidneys and gastrointestinal tract, 100 ml at a time. The infusion must be taken 4 times a day.

Steam of larkspur. Take 20 grams of larkspur grass and steam them with 1 liter of boiling water. Such a ready-made pair is used for any disease of the genitourinary organs, urethritis, jaundice. Conjunctivitis can be treated with the same remedy. Take it 200 ml three times a day. Externally, napar is used for eye inflammation (they are given lotions).

Infusion of larkspur for paralysis. To prepare it, take 1 tablespoon of larkspur herb and insist it in a glass of boiling water for about three hours. The ready-made infusion must be taken 3 times after meals every day. One-time reception of infusion - 100 ml.

Infusion of larkspur for malignant neoplasm in the liver. You need to take 20 grams of herb powder and pour 500 ml of boiling water over them, and then leave for 15 minutes in a water bath. After the water bath, the infusion must be filtered. Take a ready-made infusion of 70 ml three times a day one hour after meals or before meals.

Contraindications to the use of larkspur

This plant is contraindicated in pregnant women. It is also better not to use drugs based on larkspur for people with hypotension, myasthenia gravis. If the doses are not followed, the larkspur can be poisoned by this plant. In case of poisoning, vomiting, convulsions and depressed breathing appear. If any of these symptoms are detected, a person (animal) needs to wash the stomach and urgently take it to the hospital.
