Almond
Almond

Almond is a tall tree with bare, reddish-brown shoots. On short branches, there are small bare leaves, which are collected in several pieces in bunches. The leaves have teeth at the edges. The root system of almonds has several skeletal roots; fibrous formations are practically not observed. Due to the fact that almond roots do not penetrate deep into the soil, this plant is very drought tolerant. The weirdness of this tree is as follows: at first, flowers bloom, and only after that leaves begin to bloom. The flowers of the plant are white or white-pink in color, develop on the shoots of the last year and are located one by one.

The fruit of the plant is a dry egg-shaped drupe, which is green or brown-gray in color. When the fetus ripens, the pericarp becomes wrinkled, cracking, and a nut falls out of it. The nut is round or flat. The inside of the fruit contains small yellowish-brown seeds that are bitter and sweet. Almond blossoms begin in late winter and last until April. Fruit ripening occurs at the beginning and middle of summer.

Wild almonds can be seen in Azerbaijan, Tien Shan and Kopet-Dag. He prefers rocky and southern mountain slopes. You can often find thickets of almonds. In addition, gardeners of the Crimea, Transcaucasia and Central Asia love to grow almonds.
