Furuncle
Causes and symptoms of a boil
What is a boil?
Furuncle - a purulent protrusion on the skin (from the Latin word furiare - "to enrage"). There are many symptoms depending on the bacteria that caused the disease.
So, boils can be divided into the following: staphylococcal - folliculitis, sycosis, hydradenitis, carbuncles - as well as streptococcal and mixed.
Causes of the boil
Boils occur due to the appearance of staphylococci. Here everything is about the same as in the case of folliculitis. As for the reasons, here they can be completely different, ranging from skin trauma or simple scratching. A special risk group for this disease is those people who have a weakened immune system.
Boil symptoms
The process is developing quite progressively. It all starts with a small red dot. At the same time, the follicle deepens further and further into the skin. The development of the node of the inflammatory process occurs. At the same time, this node has a rather dense state. The skin takes on a characteristic red color. Expansion of the boundaries of edema occurs. There are no clear boundaries yet. More and more healthy tissue is absorbed and the pain increases.
The condition gradually gets worse and worse. Deepening occurs due to the hair follicle, while a completely new focus of inflammation and microbial reproduction is formed. At the same time, the hair bag dies, a boil core is formed. The tissue around the hearth begins to die.
The inflammatory process continues to grow, the pain sensations intensify. The pain becomes pronounced with movement. There is a deterioration in well-being - about the same as with ARVI. At this stage, the focus of inflammation is already quite clearly visible. The suppuration in the center becomes noticeable.
The skin turns yellow as the pus begins to approach the edges. Then a breakout occurs. At first, blood is secreted along with the pus, then only pus. Everything happens along an ascending line. At the same time, the painful sensations begin to subside. The temperature and signs of illness gradually disappear. The rod is separated and exits with the pus. The wound healing process begins.
Signs of boils
The main signs of boils: - pus in the center of the boil; - white bloody discharge from the center of the boil, this is almost the main symptom; - yellow spot in the center; - discharge from the boil, mixed with blood; - temperature exceeding the norm; - general malaise.
Disease prognosis
From how the disease will proceed, one can judge the extent to which your body is affected by a boil. If you have a boil near your ear, it will be accompanied by intense pain. If we are talking about a boil on the upper lip, then the process will be very dangerous if you do not start to treat it in time.
As for complications, they can be completely different - from damage and inflammation of blood vessels to hypertension, sepsis. Also, with a boil, there may be an outflow of staphylococci to other organs, such as the kidneys or liver. The disease can develop into a chronic form due to the first appearance of a boil. It is also worth recalling that the danger of the disease can add the site of the lesion, especially the location of the boil on the genitals.
With the right treatment, of course, there is nothing to be afraid of, but without it, we can talk about your life. One should always remember about the possible consequences of the development of the disease, such as chronic nature and damage to the kidneys and liver.
Are boils contagious?
The answer to this question is yes. The pus that flows out when the boil breaks out is contagious and affects the adjacent skin, the patient begins to develop new boils. The danger is also that pus can enter the bloodstream and spread to other organs through the circulatory system. It is worth being wary of a carbuncle - this is an accumulation of several boils. If you have a carbuncle, then it's safe to say that you have a weak immune system.
