The causative agent of epidermophytosis inguinal can be several types of epidermophyton, most often epidermophyton inguinale.

The factors that create a favorable environment for the appearance of the pathogen on the skin include: increased sweating, minor injuries to the skin, accumulation of dirt in the skin folds.

The disease is related to contact infections and can be transmitted through the use of general hygiene items, medical instruments or patient care items. Epidermophytosis can affect all family members in which a sick person lives.

Symptoms of epidermophytosis groin

The first symptoms of epidermophytosis groin include the appearance of rounded red spots on the skin in the groin or on the inner thighs, which quickly merge together, forming erythematous areas, the surface of which is flaky.

Over time, the process can spread to the pubic part, rising to the navel, the skin of the perineum, buttocks, popliteal fossa. The scrotum and skin of the penis do not suffer from epidermophytosis.

In the groin, the edges of the affected skin areas have clear boundaries, their structure is scalloped, the edges are raised in the form of ridges. In the center, the stain becomes more pale over time and becomes slightly sunken. The surface of the affected area is often covered with blisters, which are most noticeable at the edges of the spots. Here you can sometimes also see small nodules and crusts against the background of erythema.

Symptoms of epidermophytosis groin may appear in women on the skin under the breasts, under the armpits, in the elbow and knee folds.

Inguinal epidermophytosis usually begins acutely and quickly turns into a chronic form. It proceeds with exacerbations, forming from time to time new foci of skin lesions. The disease can last for several years and relapse after almost complete cure.

The course of the disease can be complicated by constant stress, increased sweating, violations of personal hygiene rules, high humidity and friction in the area of damaged skin.

Diagnostics of the inguinal epidermophytosis

Diagnosis of epidermophytosis inguinal is carried out based on the location of the process and the clinical picture of the disease, which is characterized by an acute onset and further chronic course. In difficult cases, microscopic examination can be performed.

In terms of its symptoms, epidermophytosis has much in common with trichophytosis of smooth skin and superficial yeast lesions of the skin. In the first case, when diagnosing, attention is paid to the folds of the skin, since with trichophytosis, the skin folds are not affected. In the second case, it is almost impossible to make an accurate diagnosis without laboratory research.

Prevention and treatment of epidermophytosis inguinal

For overweight persons and people suffering from increased sweating, it is recommended for prophylactic purposes to wipe the skin folds with cologne, salicylic alcohol, resorcinol and powder them daily. When a patient with epidermophytosis is identified, all persons living next to him constantly are examined, and the patient himself is treated.

For the treatment of the disease, ointments are used, which include salicylic acid, sulfur, tar. At the initial stage of the disease, the affected areas of the skin are smeared with tincture of iodine, methylene blue or brilliant green. In severe cases, treatment is carried out with antifungal or antiallergic ointments.
