Vulvitis during pregnancy is characterized by inflammation of the external genital organs. The cause of the disease can be Escherichia coli, gonococci, staphylococci, streptococci, yeasts, chlamydia and Trichomonas, in exceptional cases, vulvitis can be caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis.
If a pregnant woman is diagnosed with vulvitis, then we can assume a physiological decrease in the immune defense of the woman's body. Exacerbation of chronic infectious diseases during childbearing occurs in patients quite often, in some cases, inflammatory diseases can be acute, especially for fungal infections. Treatment of such pathologies must be carried out throughout the entire period of pregnancy.

Patients complain of burning and itching, which intensify during intercourse, during urination, and also when walking. The outer labia are swollen, reddened, the discharge becomes profuse, with a sour odor and a curdled consistency, resembling discharge from thrush.
A white film in the gap between the labia minora can become characteristic of vulvitis. In the advanced stage of the disease, the infectious process covers the inguinal folds and the anal area. The appearance of such symptoms requires a thorough examination of the patient, which allows to identify the reasons for the decrease in the body's defenses, it is important to exclude diseases such as HIV, diabetes mellitus, and hypothyroidism.
The insidiousness of vulvitis during pregnancy lies in the fact that there are practically no sufficiently effective drugs that can be safely used during this period, therefore, the inflammatory process can accompany the course of pregnancy until the very birth.
Treatment of vulvitis during pregnancy
Treatment of vulvitis during pregnancy is important to carry out under the supervision of specialists and only after a smear examination. A woman is recommended to take medicines and health procedures aimed at strengthening the immune system.
Untreated vulvitis can cause the baby to become infected with cocci during the baby's passage through the birth canal. The severe course of the infectious process requires treatment with antibacterial drugs and antifungal drugs.
