Consequences of keratitis
Most often, in all keratitis, the onset of the disease occurs in an acute form. They are characterized by a long course - up to 6 weeks or more (this is the difference in the herpetic category). Cases of recurrent processes are recorded. For example, superficial traumatic keratitis proceeds quickly - its period can be about a week. The long development of keratitis can be explained by the nutritional characteristics of the cornea. These cells do not have their own vessels, and they also have very slow metabolic processes. Keratitis can have complications. Among them is the influence of the inflammatory process on the anterior part of the uveal tract (that is, keratouveitis), which occurs due to the close location and a single source for the processes of blood supply and innervation.
Scarring as a consequence of keratitis
In the end, keratitis necessarily forms a cicatricial opacity in the area of the inflammatory infiltrate, the area of which depends on the nature of the resorption process. This means that the resulting corneal opacity is less than the resulting inflammatory infiltrate. Cicatricial opacities from inflammatory infiltrate can be distinguished by several characteristic features. For example, the clear boundaries of the first and the absence of any manifestations of inflammation in it. The process can be characterized by the level of intensity, as well as by the extent of turbidity. On these grounds, there are three types of possible outcomes of the disease.
A cloud (nubecula) is called a gentle turbidity. It is difficult to fix it. In medicine, methods of objective examination of the affected organ of vision are used for these purposes. If the location is central, there may be a threat of decreased visual acuity. A spot (macula) is called a rather intense, but slight turbidity visible under normal conditions. Belm (leycoma) is considered to be intense, significant in size turbidity. If the thorn occupies the entire cornea, it is called total, but if the iris surface is soldered into its area (but at the same time the anterior chamber of uneven depth), it is classified as spliced. There are times when the thorn is permeated with vessels - then it is called vascularized. There is a classificationwhich is used to determine the treatment and indications for keratoplasty surgery (that is, corneal transplant) - thus treating blindness from leucorrhoea.
V. P. Filatov developed a special technique, thanks to her, the blindness, the cause of which is the thorn, became possible to be attributed to the curable. Filatov mastered the transplantation of a corneal graft not from a living organism, but from a cadaveric eye, which made keratoplasty acceptable in almost all cases described.
The frequency parameters of individual forms of keratitis can differ quite noticeably. These are not only territorial, but also temporary differences. The indicators are influenced by the influence of many etiological factors. The incidence of tuberculosis is growing, thus, tuberculous keratitis is registered more and more often, the statistics of herpetic keratitis also change upward.
