Symptoms and treatment of hemorrhage in the anterior chamber of the eye
Hemorrhage into the anterior chamber of the eye is called "hyphema", while blood is poured into the space of the cornea and iris. It is known that the iris is the anterior part of the choroid of the eyeball, the tissue of which is well supplied with blood through numerous capillaries. This vascular network is the cause of the hyphema.
Symptoms of hemorrhage in the anterior chamber of the eye
If the size of the hyphema is significant, then it is easy to see it with the naked eye. Due to the fact that the blood cells have a greater mass than the aqueous humor normally found in the anterior chamber of the eye, when the human body is upright, they form a sediment at the bottom of the eyeball. When the body is horizontal, the blood is agitated, and its cells, being in suspension, cause visual impairment. Even a small amount of blood in the anterior chamber of the eye significantly reduces vision, since the blood cells cause strong light scattering.
Symptoms of bleeding into the anterior chamber of the eye can occur due to blunt trauma to the eye. Pathology can also be caused by an abnormality in the development of the vascular network of the iris, blood diseases, neoplasms in the eye area, surgical intervention.
Hyphema is manifested by a decrease in vision, in some cases blindness is noted, accompanied by the ability only to feel light. In patients, during the examination, blood is found in the anterior chamber of the eye, sometimes there is a high intraocular pressure.
When making a diagnosis, it is important for a specialist to determine the causes of the pathology; in case of injury, a detailed description of all the details is necessary. All this helps in choosing a therapy plan. Visual acuity is also checked, the value of intraocular pressure is determined. The doctor examines the eye using a slit lamp and an ophthalmoscope.
Treatment of hemorrhage in the anterior chamber of the eye
Treatment of hemorrhage in the anterior chamber of the eye depends on the cause of the pathology and the extent of its consequences. Blood, especially with its insignificant volume, can dissolve on its own without any therapy, this usually takes several days. The process can be accelerated with the right treatment.
Until all symptoms of the disease disappear, the doctor monitors the indicators of intraocular pressure, since blood bodies with a stream of aqueous humor enter the drainage system of the eye and clog it. If necessary, the patient is prescribed drops that reduce intraocular pressure.
With a significant volume of blood in the anterior chamber of the eye, the ineffectiveness of the treatment, as well as with the appearance of complications in the form of intraocular pressure and blood smears on the cornea, surgical intervention is indicated to remove the hyphema.
