Oxygen cocktail: what is its use and how to make it at home?
The oxygen cocktail is a development of Soviet scientists, which was published in the 60s of the 20th century. At this time, they managed to prove that oxygen is able to be absorbed and transported to the internal organs not only in the lungs, but also in the stomach. This news instantly spread throughout all medical institutions, and the oxygen cocktail was actively introduced into the practice of most health-improving enterprises (sanatoriums, dispensaries, physiotherapy rooms). Today, oxygen cocktails are prepared not only in specialized institutions, but almost everywhere. It can also be made at home.
An oxygen cocktail is an excellent way to prevent complications that develop against the background of hypoxia. Hypoxia is oxygen starvation of organs and tissues, which is very dangerous for health. Insufficient oxygen content in the air, its oversaturation with carbon dioxide, diseases of the respiratory and cardiovascular systems, and diseases of internal organs can lead to hypoxia.
Chronic hypoxia is expressed by such symptoms as: increased daytime sleepiness, difficulty falling asleep, headaches, tinnitus, dizziness, bouts of nausea, impairment of memory and attention, decreased mental abilities. Hypoxia is a danger to a person of any age; children, pregnant women, and the elderly often suffer from it. An oxygen cocktail is a drink that allows you to saturate the body with oxygen molecules and prevents the development of hypoxia.

What is an oxygen cocktail?
Oxygen cocktail is a composition containing oxygen that forms a foam. This drink was developed and offered to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine by Academician N. N. Sirotin in 1963. At first it had the name of an oxygen film and it was used excluded in hospitals.
The cocktail contains three main components - oxygen, a flavoring filler and a food foaming agent. Oxygen can be supplied through medical oxygen cylinders, or through portable cylinders filled with oxygen-air mixture. There are also oxygen concentrators that produce an air mixture, while the O2 content in it will be equal to 95%.
The liquid component of the drink is most often represented by juices (apple, grape, cherry, pear, raspberry), but syrups, water, milk and fruit drinks can also be used. Carbonated drinks, liquids containing oils, juices with pulp should not be taken as a basis, since even and uniform foam cannot be obtained on such a basis. If an oxygen drink is used not only for the prevention of hypoxia, but also for treatment, then the basis of the cocktail can be infusions of herbs and plants that have healing properties. To do this, you can use motherwort, dog rose, hawthorn, immortelle, etc.
The foaming component is the third component of the cocktail. Due to it, the drink becomes foamy. Modern foaming components are absolutely safe for human health. Previously, to create foam, they used raw chicken egg white, which could contain salmonella, or licorice root, which has an alcohol base. Creation of foaming components allowed to reduce all possible risks of harm to health to zero.
The method of saturating the body with oxygen through the stomach is based on its ability to be absorbed into the bloodstream through the gastric mucosa. When taking a course of cocktails, the body is effectively saturated with oxygen, while there are no side effects that can occur with inhalation of gas.
The finished product is obtained through the use of a mixer, which is connected to a condenser flask. A foaming agent is added to the base of the product, after which all components are sent to a container into which oxygen streams are supplied. At the exit, a product is learned, represented by a delicious foam. You can use it at any age. The foamy consistency of the cocktail allows it to be instantly absorbed into the digestive tract.
The oxygen concentration in the drink is equal to 80-99%. Its saturation has a relationship with which component is used as a source of oxygen. If oxygen comes from a medical cylinder, then its amount will be maximum. It is advisable to install such devices in large medical institutions. For domestic use, it is more convenient to use small oxygen condensers, but the oxygen concentration in the final product can be reduced, although not significantly.
The benefits of an oxygen cocktail
The benefits of an oxygen cocktail for the body are obvious:
- It has been proven that the consumption of one glass of oxygen cocktail per day allows you to saturate the body with such a dose of O2, which is comparable to a two-hour walk through the forest.
- Oxygen supplied to organs and tissues in sufficient quantities allows them to function normally. If there are any disorders in the body, then it will be easier for him to cope with them.
- If an oxygen cocktail is taken on a regular basis, then soon a person will notice how his performance has increased. Sleep becomes stronger, daytime sleepiness disappears. Stressful situations, without which it is impossible to imagine the life of a modern person, will be easier to bear.
- An organism that does not experience oxygen starvation finds it easier to fight viral and bacterial infections.
- Regular consumption of oxygen cocktails has a positive effect on the functioning of the brain, increases mental activity, improves memory and attention.
- If a person smokes or tries to give up this bad habit, then an oxygen cocktail will help him to quickly remove toxic compounds accumulated in them from the respiratory tract.
- An oxygen cocktail contains a minimum amount of kilocalories. Therefore, it can be safely included in your diet for people who adhere to a diet and simply monitor their diet. Oxygen cocktail is one of the favorite drinks of athletes. Indeed, despite the low calorie content, the composition allows you to dull the feeling of hunger.
-
There is evidence that an oxygen cocktail has the ability to break down fat deposits at the level of cellular metabolism. Nutritionists claim that a two-day oxygen cocktail diet can replace a rigid seven-day diet. In this case, the oxygen cocktail is consumed up to 6 times a day.
- The oxygen from the cocktail helps to strengthen the vascular walls of the smallest blood pathways, and also helps to trigger collagen production. Therefore, if you want to improve skin tone, make it more elastic and fresh, you should take an oxygen cocktail.
- Taking an oxygen cocktail allows you to resist increased fatigue and chronic fatigue. It is recommended to be included in the treatment regimen for people suffering from asthenic syndrome.
- An oxygen cocktail can be used to treat various forms of hypoxia. The drink reduces the risk of developing side effects of oxygen starvation of tissues, reduces the likelihood of heart pathologies.
- Neurotic insomnia is an indication for a course intake of an oxygen cocktail.
- An oxygen cocktail should be drunk by people who live in areas with an unfavorable environmental situation. This drink allows at least a little to stop the oxygen starvation experienced by residents of large cities.
- Taking an oxygen cocktail increases the oxygen transport function of the blood and the saturation indices of arterial blood.
Oxygen cocktail harm
An oxygen cocktail can be harmful in the following cases:
- Drink abuse. An excess of oxygen in the body can provoke an exacerbation of chronic diseases, cause inflammation of the tissues of internal organs.
- Oxygen cocktail speeds up metabolic processes. As a result, existing kidney and gallstones may move. If they block the bile and urinary ducts, it can lead to acute inflammation.
- People who have stomach ulcers should not drink oxygen. Patients with gastritis should definitely consult a doctor before drinking an oxygen cocktail.
In principle, by itself, oxygen from a cocktail is not capable of harming the body. Caution should be exercised with respect to the components that make up it. Sometimes they can provoke allergic reactions. Chicken protein is especially dangerous in this regard. Also, honey is often added to oxygen cocktails, which is a strong allergen. Therefore, before drinking a portion of the oxygen cocktail, you should clarify what exactly is included in its composition.
Contraindications to taking oxygen cocktail
There are a number of contraindications for taking an oxygen cocktail, including:
- Asthmatic status. Acute attack of the disease.
- Migraine during an attack.
- Liquorodynamic disorders in the decompensated stage.
- Acute disorders of cerebral circulation.
- The period after the received traumatic brain injury, not earlier than 10 weeks.

- Acute ulcerative colitis.
- Adhesive disease.
- Urolithiasis disease.
- Gallstone disease of the second stage and higher.
- Allergy to the ingredients in the cocktail.
- The presence of contraindications to physiotherapy treatment.
Who is recommended to drink oxygen cocktails?
If a cocktail is drunk for a preventive purpose, then it can be consumed by the following categories of citizens:
- Healthy children during the period of massive outbreaks of ARVI.
- Children who are often ill. Children with prolonged and sluggish ARVI.
- Children and adults living in areas with an unfavorable ecological situation.
- Children who experience chronic mental and physical stress.
- To patients with bronchial asthma in remission.
- People who spend most of their time indoors.

Sometimes an oxygen cocktail is prescribed in a complex treatment regimen for various diseases.
The indications may be as follows:
- Bronchial asthma, but not during an attack.
- Bronchitis, accompanied by frequent relapses.
- ARVI with sinusitis, rhinitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis, tracheobronchitis.

Oxygen cocktail dosage
The recommended daily intake of an oxygen cocktail for an adult is 1-2 500 ml servings. The course of taking the drink should last no more than 2 weeks, after which you should take a break for 14 days. Then the course can be repeated.
One-time cocktail serving for children of different ages
How old is the child | Serving volume in ml |
3-6 | 150 |
7-10 | 200 ml |
10-14 | 250 ml |
Oxygen cocktail during pregnancy
An oxygen cocktail is prescribed to pregnant women for the following purposes:
- Treatment and prevention of placental insufficiency, fetal hypoxia, anemia. The effectiveness of the drink in terms of the prevention and treatment of placental insufficiency was proven in 2006 in the course of tests conducted at the Peoples' Friendship University.
- Improvement of well-being with toxicosis.
- Strengthening the immunity of a pregnant woman.
- Improving fetal nutrition by activating metabolic processes in the body.
- Reduced hunger.
- Blood oxygen saturation.
- Elimination of toxins from the body.
- Improving digestive function, preventing constipation.
- Reducing headaches.
- Bringing blood pressure back to normal.
Anemia is a problem that develops in many women in position. Lack of iron leads to the fact that hemoglobin, which carries oxygen, will be contained in the blood in an insufficient amount. Therefore, fetal hypoxia is directly related to iron deficiency anemia.
If a pregnant woman does not have the opportunity to walk in the fresh air every day, then she should drink an oxygen cocktail. Oxygen in the form of a foam passes through the digestive tract and is absorbed from it into the lymph and blood. This leads to an increase in its partial pressure, the capillaries become more susceptible to oxygen molecules, which are dissolved in the blood plasma. Therefore, it easily penetrates the placental barrier. Thus, the supply of nutrients to the fetus increases, which has a beneficial effect on its development.
Since taking an oxygen cocktail allows you to strengthen the immune system, the risks of contracting a pregnant woman with viral diseases are reduced. The course of toxicosis, if present, will be alleviated. In addition, after consulting a doctor, it will be possible to take an oxygen cocktail enriched with vitamins and microelements.
An oxygen cocktail is a very tasty drink that a pregnant woman will like, and a stable psycho-emotional background at this time is very important. Therefore, the expectant mother not only improves her health and fetal health, but also gets positive emotions.
Oxygen cocktail for children
In preschool and school educational institutions, oxygen cocktail makers are often installed. This measure is aimed at improving the health of children, whose immunity is weaker than that of an adult. It is children who are more susceptible to various diseases. Therefore, you should not refuse an oxygen cocktail, but only on the condition that the child has no contraindications to take it.
The benefits of an oxygen cocktail in childhood:
- It will be easier for the child to endure mental stress, which is increasing every year.
- The drink helps to accelerate metabolic processes, thereby charging the body with energy.
- A cocktail can become not only a source of oxygen, but also vitamins and minerals.
- The child becomes more resilient to stressful situations.
- An oxygen cocktail is shown for children who suffer from neuroses.
Before offering a cocktail to a child, you need to make sure that he does not have an allergic reaction to the components that make up the drink.
How to make an oxygen cocktail at home?
In order to improve your health with an oxygen cocktail, there is no need to visit medical institutions. Modern equipment allows you to prepare a drink without even leaving your home.
In order to prepare an oxygen cocktail, you will need to purchase a special oxygen mixer or oxygen cocktail. This will allow the base to lather. A cylinder can act as a source of oxygen, the amount of oxygen in it depends on its volume. The cylinder will need to be refilled periodically. Moreover, the gas itself can be stored in it for a very long time. At the pharmacy, you can buy an oxygen cushion, which is equipped with a convenient tap. Another source of oxygen is the oxygen concentrator, which is the most convenient option for home use. Such a device is not cheap, but at the same time it can independently release oxygen from the air.
Egg white in dry or liquid form, licorice root extract or special formulations are used as a foaming agent. It is best to give preference to the latter option, since modern foaming agents are safe for health and are designed taking into account the needs of the human body.
The next step is to decide on the main one for the cocktail. To do this, you can take juice without pulp, milk, decoctions of medicinal herbs, fruit drinks or syrups, which are produced specifically for making cocktails.
10 g of a foaming agent is taken per 100 ml of base, these two components are thoroughly mixed and oxygen is supplied to them. You need to drink the drink right away, until the useful gas has evaporated.
It should be borne in mind that oxygen in its pure form is an extremely explosive substance. Therefore, the containers in which it is contained should be kept away from heating devices and from direct sunlight.
