Cervicitis as a cause of cervical erosion
Treatment of cervical erosion and cervicitis
Cervicitis can be the cause of the development of cervical erosion. Cervicitis is an inflammatory disease in which the infectious process is localized in the cervical region.
Causes of cervical erosion and cervicitis
The cause of the appearance of pathology can be staphylococci, streptococci, Trichomonas, Escherichia coli, etc. In most cases, cervicitis develops in women of childbearing age.
As part of a gynecological examination, the diagnosis of cervical erosion and cervicitis can be made at the same time. In addition, the following can be used as diagnostic procedures: pelvic ultrasound, blood, smear, urine analysis, including biochemical analysis, as well as laparoscopy, hysteroscopy.
Cervicitis is often the cause of cervical erosion. So, erosion can develop against the background of completely healed inflammation of the cervical canal, while the mucous membrane of the squamous epithelium is partially destroyed. Allocate false and true erosion of the cervix.
True erosion is accompanied by desquamation of cells of the epithelial layer. In medicine, false erosion is most widespread, when the stratified squamous epithelium is replaced with a cylindrical one.
Erosion of the cervix can also develop at the site of ruptures that appeared during abortion and labor, or be formed due to eversion of the cervical mucosa.
In favor of false erosion, the pallor of the cervix, its velvety or the presence of papillae speaks. With true erosion, the tissues are colored bright red, and blood is visible on the tampon after contact with the affected area.
The diagnosis of "cervical erosion" can be made after gynecological examination and palpation, as well as after ultrasound. Carrying out cytological and histological examinations of smears allows you to confirm the doctor's assumption.
Treatment of cervical erosion and cervicitis
After an accurate diagnosis is made, a woman is given appropriate treatment for cervical erosion and cervicitis with antiviral or antibacterial drugs, as well as by removing false erosion by cauterization and cervical tamponade with an antibacterial composition (treatment of true erosion). The choice of medicines is determined taking into account the type and nature of microorganisms, as well as their individual sensitivity to antibiotics.
During a long course of treatment, the doctor may prescribe immunostimulants. It is important to remember that in most cases the diagnosis of "cervicitis" requires treatment of both sexual partners and refusal of sexual intercourse until the symptoms of the disease completely disappear - or, more precisely, throughout the course of treatment and one week after the end of therapy.
