Symptoms and treatment of cytomegalovirus in men
In most cases, cytomegalovirus in men is in an inactive form, the reason for its activation may be a decrease in the body's defenses during colds, stressful situations, and nervous exhaustion.
Symptoms of cytomegalovirus in men
Symptoms of cytomegalovirus in men can manifest as follows: fever and chills, swelling of the nose and mucous membranes, runny nose, enlarged lymph nodes, muscle pain, headaches, skin rashes, inflammatory joint diseases.
In its manifestations, cytomegalovirus infection resembles acute respiratory infections. It is important to know that the symptoms of the disease appear only 1–2 months after infection, after the incubation period. The main difference between the pathological process and the common cold is the duration of clinical manifestations.
Symptoms of the disease persist for 4-6 weeks, in contrast to acute respiratory infections, the duration of which does not exceed 1-2 weeks. Immediately after infection, a person becomes an active carrier of the pathogen and remains so for three years. In addition, cytomegalovirus in some cases also affects the genitourinary organs, causing inflammatory diseases in the tissues of the testicles and in the organs of the genitourinary system, which are accompanied by unpleasant sensations during urination.
With a critical drop in immunity, cytomegalovirus is more pronounced and causes damage to internal organs, disorders of the central nervous system, pneumonia, pleurisy, encephalitis, myocarditis. In very rare cases, provided that the patient has a whole range of infectious diseases, the inflammatory process can cause paralysis of the brain tissue and the death of the patient.
The natural level of human susceptibility to cytomegalovirus infection is quite high, the infectious process itself can be accompanied by various symptoms, but with a normally functioning immune system, the disease proceeds without any manifestations. The acute course of the disease is characteristic of immunodeficient physiological conditions and for persons with acquired or congenital immunodeficiency. Replication of the virus occurs in the tissues of the reticuloendothelial system, in the liver, urogenital, digestive tract and on the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract.
Treatment of cytomegalovirus in men
Treatment of cytomegalovirus in men is not aimed at ridding the body of the virus, but at eliminating the symptoms of the disease, provided that the inflammatory process proceeds in an acute form, and also at keeping the pathogen in an inactive form.
To date, none of the methods of therapy allows you to completely get rid of cytomegalovirus, forever freeing the human body from this pathogen. Treatment of cytomegalovirus with immunomodulators continues in most cases for several weeks, and it is necessary to take medications only as prescribed by a doctor and only if the disease is asymptomatic. With an active infectious process, antiviral therapy is performed.
