Onions and Garlic Protect 80% Against Colon Cancer
Back in the last century, onions were actively used to treat various diseases. Now people prefer to replace it with pharmacological agents. Research from China may lead you to take a different look at this odorous vegetable.
Earlier studies have shown that some compounds in onions, including flavonoids and organosulfur compounds, are biologically active, and that some of them inhibit the development of cancer [1].
But now, scientists from China Medical University have decided to find out if onions and garlic really have the unique ability to inhibit the development of bowel cancer. They studied the nutritional characteristics of 833 patients suffering from this pathology. They then compared their diet to that of the same number of healthy people. This allowed us to establish one interesting pattern. It has been linked to the consumption of onions and garlic. Mathematical analysis helped clarify that people who included these foods in their diets had a 79% lower risk of bowel cancer.
